At age four, children’s vocabulary grows, they start expressing their feelings and thoughts in words, and they can find their own favorite play activities and things they want to try.

This time, we’ve gathered play ideas that are perfect for the development of four-year-olds.

In addition to easy-to-implement indoor physical activities and group games, we also introduce many DIY toy-making ideas that let children freely enjoy expressing themselves while expanding their imagination.

We’ve collected many activities that, through playing with friends, help children experience the importance of following rules and the joy of sharing feelings.

Use these as a reference to find play ideas that match the children’s interests.

Make it with materials you have at home! Here’s an idea for “Pom-Pom Curling.” Curling is a sport played on ice where teams take turns throwing heavy circular stones called “stones,” competing against each other.

This time, let’s use items you have at home to play Pom-Pom Curling! What you’ll need: construction paper, a toilet paper roll, a bag, scissors, double-sided tape, and tape.

It looks like a great way to develop control over force and strategic thinking.

Party-gathering game

It's fun to play as usual, and you can also connect it to the next activity! 😆😆Childcare#FreelanceNurseryTeacherTemporary custodyTemporary childcareChildcare

No talking to friends allowed! Here’s an idea for a game where you gather teammates.

It’s a fun activity using cards with animal pictures on them.

However, you’re not allowed to talk to your friends during the game! Rely only on the animal sounds depicted on the cards handed out by the teacher or guardian to find others with matching cards.

The tricky part is calling out to your teammates while carefully distinguishing their calls.

Once everyone gets used to the rules, adding a time limit could make it even more exciting!

Handmade aluminum balloon

Let’s have fun with aluminum foil! Here are some ideas for making DIY aluminum balloons.

Aluminum foil is commonly used for cooking and storage, right? This time, let’s use the aluminum foil you have at home to make handmade aluminum balloons.

You’ll need aluminum foil, a pen, a round template, stickers, scissors, laminating sheets, tape, and a stick such as a disposable chopstick.

Draw on the aluminum foil, laminate it, then make a hole and blow air into it.

Insert the stick and secure it with tape, and you’re done!

You only need two things to prepare! Here’s an idea for a newspaper sheet game.

It’s also a great option when you have to switch activities indoors due to sudden bad weather.

With just newspaper and tape, you can start playing right away! Set up a long chain of connected newspaper sheets under a chair.

While sitting on the chair, move both feet left and right to store the newspaper under the chair.

The key is to use the entire sole of your feet, which also makes it perfect for strengthening your core.

Secret Base Dome

@mami_asobi

Today’s post is the Newspaper Dome. This activity got my child the most excited ever 🤭 It’s spacious—about 5 or 6 kids could fit inside 😁 Kids love secret-base-type spots, right? With the breeze coming in, it felt cool and comfy inside! For a dome this big, one fan might not inflate it enough; using two made it pop up nice and full! If you only have one fan, I recommend making a smaller one 😊 How to play: Go in and out, jump around inside Bring toys into the dome and play Toss in a blanket for a cozy nap Bring in snacks and drinks Stick stickers all over the walls Scribble on the floor or walls with pens Let them go all out, and finish the day by tearing it up—that alone can keep you busy all day 🤭 Materials: About 30 sheets of newspaper (use more or fewer—try any size you like) Packing tape Plastic sheeting (for the ceiling) I made each wall panel with 6 sheets of newspaper this time! The entrance side used 5 sheets! For the ceiling, I opened up two plastic garbage bags and used those! I used plastic for the ceiling to let in light this time, but you can make the ceiling out of newspaper too! Thanks always for watching 😊 Let’s keep adding to our at-home play ideas and enjoy parenting together ☺️✨ At-home play Indoor play Educational play Parent–child time Newspaper play Newspaper dome Secret base Secret-base dome

Let’s secretly play in your very own room! Here are some ideas for a secret-base dome.

For children, a secret base is a special place that sparks their sense of adventure and imagination.

It’s an appealing space they can use freely—as their personal hideout or a place to invite trusted friends to play together.

This time, let’s make a secret-base dome using materials you already have at home.

You’ll need newspaper, plastic bags, and duct tape.

After making the walls and roof with the newspaper and plastic bags, blow air in through the entrance using a fan.

It will puff up softly and it’s really fun!

Treasure-Grabbing Game

[Peripheral vision] [Decision-making] Train while playing! Fun for everyone from toddlers to adults!
Treasure-Grabbing Game

Let’s play with excitement! Here’s an idea for a treasure-grabbing game.

This unique activity can be enjoyed by both kids and adults, so teachers and guardians should join in with the children and have fun together.

It’s a simple game where you spread two colors of hula hoops around the room and move markers into the hula hoops of your team color.

The key rule is that only one marker can be placed inside each hula hoop! Give it a try!

Anything Basket

[5-year-olds] Anything Basket!
Anything Basket

Listen carefully, think carefully, and move! Here’s an idea for a “Anything Basket” game.

Are you familiar with Fruit Basket? In this game, participants are assigned the names of fruits like apple, banana, and orange.

The facilitator calls out, “○○ fruit!” and the children who have that fruit name quickly move to the seats designated for that fruit.

As a variation of Fruit Basket, let’s try “Anything Basket.” It’s a great way to develop good listening skills!
