[For 4-Year-Olds] Fun to Make! A Collection of Halloween Craft Ideas

It’s the Halloween season that 4-year-olds love! Here, we’ll introduce Halloween craft ideas you can enjoy together with 4-year-olds.

We’ve gathered only projects you can move and play with, like spiders and ghosts.

They’re made with familiar materials and include lots of engaging tricks—blowing air to make them move or using the power of rubber bands—to really grab children’s interest.

Through making these, kids can grow their creativity and expressive skills, while the excitement and thrills spread as they work with friends.

It’s sure to be a special time where everyone can share the fun of Halloween.

Because the children’s creations are treated as works (artworks), we use the term “seisaku” (制作) in the text.

Halloween hanging decorations

Let me introduce a recommended hanging decoration for a Halloween party! It’s simple enough for 4-year-olds, so try it in your classroom or at home.

You’ll need Halloween-colored construction paper, scissors, something to draw faces with, and string.

First, fold the paper in half.

Then draw shapes that are symmetrical along the fold—like pumpkins, ghosts, or hats.

Cut out the shapes with scissors and draw your favorite faces.

Finally, tape or glue them to the string, and you’re done.

If you prepare templates, the children can draw them too, so be sure to enjoy making them together!

Halloween eye mask

Halloween eye mask

Here’s how to make a Halloween eye mask from a paper plate that’s perfect for a 4-year-old! You’ll need: a paper plate for the base, colored construction paper, a wooden chopstick, pipe cleaners, double-sided tape, clear tape, a craft knife, washi tape, and scissors.

First, draw a pumpkin shape on the paper plate.

Next, cut it out with scissors, then stick double-sided tape on the colored paper and cut it into thin strips.

Attach the strips to the paper plate.

Make the pumpkin’s eyes and mouth from the colored paper, and decorate with pipe cleaners and more colored paper.

Finally, wrap the wooden chopstick with washi tape and secure it to the mask with clear tape—and you’re done!

Inflating paper cup ghost

[Production] Halloween Craft – Paper Cup Ghost
Inflating paper cup ghost

Here’s a cute ghost craft you can make using a paper cup.

First, make a hole in the paper cup for a straw.

Use tape to firmly attach a plastic bag to the straw so that no air can escape—this is a very important step! Draw your preferred ghost eyes and mouth on construction paper.

Cut them out and stick them on the cup, then thread the “straw ghost” through the hole you made at the beginning, and you’re done.

When you blow gently, the straw ghost pops out of the cup.

It’s a simple craft, so give it a try! It might also be fun to use an umbrella bag to make a long ghost.

Pop-up nodding skull

Pop-up nodding skull

Let’s make it with a toilet paper roll! Here’s an idea for a pop-out, nodding skull.

You’ll need a toilet paper roll, a bendy straw, tissues, scissors, a pen, and tape.

When you pull the lever made from the bendy straw, a skull pops out of the toilet paper roll.

You can change the skull part, so it could be fun to make it while discussing ideas with kids.

Let your imagination run wild and create your very own pop-up mechanism!

witch’s hat

[Halloween Craft] Witch Hat <Paper Plate or Construction Paper> [Easy Way to Make a Cone Hat (Party Hat), Pointy Hat] How to Make a Paper Witch Hat – DIY Halloween Decor
witch's hat

Let’s make something using familiar materials! Here are ideas for making a witch’s hat.

You will need a paper plate or construction paper, pins or string, a pen, tape, and scissors.

The great thing is that the materials are easy to find and make this a simple project to start.

Cutting with scissors is a great opportunity to develop children’s concentration and thinking skills.

If the material is stiff, it’s best to cut it together with a parent or teacher.

You can wear the finished hat.

Get into character as a witch and enjoy Halloween!

snack bag

[Halloween Craft] Pumpkin Candy Holder/Container/Box (Construction Paper) [Cute and Easy Craft] Jack-o'-Lantern
snack bag

Here’s an idea for a candy bag inspired by a jack-o’-lantern.

You’ll make it using strips of construction paper.

Prepare four strips of construction paper all the same length, plus one strip that’s slightly longer.

First, form the long strip into a ring and secure it.

Next, take two of the equal-length strips, cross them into a plus sign, and attach both ends of each strip to the ring.

Attach the remaining two strips to fill in the gaps.

With the bag body complete, glue on facial features made from black construction paper.

Finally, tape on a string to serve as the handle, and you’re done.

It’s a cute bag that looks like it can hold lots of treats.

spinning ghost

If you hang this up, the kids might be startled and shout, “A ghost is flying!” On a sheet of white construction paper, draw a spiral inspired by a snail and a ghost’s face.

Cut away any unnecessary parts with scissors, then cut along the lines to turn it into a long ghost shape.

Punch a hole in the ghost’s head, thread a string through, and secure it with tape so it doesn’t come off.

And that’s it—your twirly ghost is complete! Drawing the spiral is fun, but be careful: if you draw too many spirals, the cutting will become difficult.
