Classic and popular songs by Akai Koen

A four-piece rock band, Akai Ko-en.

They’re known for their distinctive songwriting sensibilities.

Their songs seem to emerge from a composition process where guitarist Tsuno brings in demos infused with elements of classical and contemporary music, which the other members then distill into a pop-leaning rock sound.

Let yourself be swept away by their music, guided by their credo of staying free.

Kururin Drawing Songakai kouen

Akai Koen “Kururin Drawing Song” — ‘Tachikawa City Major Debut Plan’: Let’s build an “Akai Koen” in the city and film a promotional video for Tachikawa City!
Kururin Drawing Songakai kouen

Akurai Kouen wrote an original “Kururin Drawing Song” for Kururin, the mascot of Tachikawa City where the band grew up.

Amazingly, just by listening to the first verse, anyone can draw Kururin! But be careful: in the music video everyone is so cute that you might not be able to focus on drawing.

transparentakai kouen

A song included on the mini-album “Tōmei na no ka Kuro na no ka” (“Is It Transparent or Is It Black”).

Akai Ko-en has a unique worldview, and this track is truly incredible.

The lyrics are written so sparsely that after hearing them once you can remember them, and that minimalism conveys the song’s essence.

I think it’s a pretty rock-driven track.

lumpakai kouen

This is a song included on the album “Transparent or Black,” released in 2012.

It has a distinctive worldview with a slightly eerie, dark atmosphere that makes it memorable.

Yet in the chorus, when the vocalist cries out “Kagome, kagome,” you can feel a spine-tingling sense of coolness.

jailakai kouen

A track included on their second album, “Moretsu Rhythmic.” It’s a song that likens the everyday life of living together with a lover to a prison.

With an arrangement that’s quintessentially Akai Koen, it fully conveys the feelings of a girl within the music.

absolute zeroakai kouen

A must-listen for fans of girl bands! This four-piece is Akai Ko-en.

Their hallmark is a musical style that refuses to be confined to the “rock band” box.

Guitarist Yosaki Tuno’s remarkably broad musical roots shine through, and they’ve released many tracks with a distinctive worldview that can’t be summed up in a single word.

If you think “girl bands are just cute,” prepare to have that notion blown away.

Their song Zettai Reido was used as the ending theme for the fantasy anime Drifting Dragons.

cowardakai kouen

It was included as the second track on the demo recording “Hajimemashite,” produced in 2011.

The straightforward bassline is lovely.

The song is about one’s own weakness and slyness.

By the way, “coward” means “wimp.”

Look.akai kouen

This is a track from the 2017 album “Nesshō Summer.” According to member and composer Yonezu Tsuno, she wrote this song when she was a first-year high school student for a school festival, and you can really sense the scent of youth in it.

Even so, to be able to write a song like this as a high schooler—there’s no other word but genius.
