Classic and popular songs by Akai Koen

A four-piece rock band, Akai Ko-en.

They’re known for their distinctive songwriting sensibilities.

Their songs seem to emerge from a composition process where guitarist Tsuno brings in demos infused with elements of classical and contemporary music, which the other members then distill into a pop-leaning rock sound.

Let yourself be swept away by their music, guided by their credo of staying free.

parkakai kouen

This is an instrumental track included on the 2011 mini-album “Walking with Bremen.” It features a bouncy rhythm, an enigmatic melodic line, and distinctive birdsong.

The contrast between the delay-drenched guitar phrases and the intense riffs is especially effective.

nonsenseakai kouen

This is the B-side track to the single “KOKI,” released in 2015.

Loved by fans as a hidden gem, it blends Akai Koen’s experimental musicality with an electronic sound.

It’s a captivating song with a grand, expansive worldview.

secondhand smokeakai kouen

This is a track included on the mini-album “Transparent or Black.” The instrumental section in the first half is very appealing, and those who love the warmth of analog sound will find it irresistible.

In the latter half, vocals come in and the energy builds toward the climax.

Brave childakai kouen

This is a track included on the 2017 album “Nesshō Summer.” The singing style resembles a children’s choir, which paradoxically adds to the song’s appeal, with the members singing in unison in the first half.

In the latter half, it becomes freer—and more poignant.

daughterakai kouen

This is the B-side track to Akai Koen’s debut single, Nozoki Ana.

It’s a relatively short song—under three minutes—but its numerous developments make it feel anything but brief.

The sound, which leans toward hard rock, is particularly compelling.

dissipation; debauchery; profligacyakai kouen

It’s the coupling song from the single “Chochin in the Dark Night,” released in 2017.

While it uses Western instruments like synthesizers and guitars, the track has a subtly Japanese flavor.

The lyrics, which evoke a man being played by a woman, are also captivating.

funakai kouen

A track included on their second album, “Mouretsu Rhythmic.” As the title suggests, it’s an endlessly “fun” sound.

It feels like a song that gathers the most enjoyable beats in music, with Red Park’s playful spirit shining through here and there.
