Classic and popular songs by Akai Koen

A four-piece rock band, Akai Ko-en.

They’re known for their distinctive songwriting sensibilities.

Their songs seem to emerge from a composition process where guitarist Tsuno brings in demos infused with elements of classical and contemporary music, which the other members then distill into a pop-leaning rock sound.

Let yourself be swept away by their music, guided by their credo of staying free.

fightakai kouen

It’s the eighth track on the 2016 album Junjo Randoseru.

The song features a march-like beat front and center, over which chaotic guitar sounds resound.

Perhaps due to the beat, it also carries an atmosphere reminiscent of a school sports day.

This is a track from the 2016 album “Junjō Randoseru.” With its pop, bright, and calm vibe, it made me think, “Is this an ending theme for something?” And yes! It’s the ending theme for NHK’s “Gretel no Madoka”! The scene in the MV intro where she sings holding a dandelion is fantastic, too.

Girl bands are great, aren’t they?

14akai kouen

It’s the ninth track on the 2016 album “Junjo Randoseru.” The song bursts with momentum, kicking off with an undeniably cool guitar riff, and the chorus thunders with a beat reminiscent of melodic hardcore.

It’s beloved by fans as one of the songs that really gets the crowd going live.

AUNakai kouen

This is a track from the 2017 album “Nesshō Summer.” Its easy-to-remember melody contrasts with a complex accompaniment that perfectly matches, creating a sound that’s quintessentially Akai Koen.

Depending on how you listen, the lyrics can even come across as a heartbreak song, inviting a variety of interpretations.

BEARakai kouen

This is a track from the 2017 album Netsushō Summer (Passionate Singing Summer).

It’s a song that shifts the atmosphere of the album, featuring piano at the forefront alongside sounds of bustling crowds and unusual percussion.

It depicts a story about a teddy bear that has been cherished since childhood.

Your girl, the naughty meakai kouen

It’s the seventh track on the 2016 album “Junjo Randoseru.” The song overflows with the vibe of Showa-era kayōkyoku, featuring a catchy melody and rhythm.

The lyrics are very pop, giving the impression of a classic love song.

strawberryakai kouen

This song conveys the bittersweet ache of young love.

It’s included on Akai Koen’s album “Mouretsu Rhythmic,” and its distinctive rhythm leaves a strong impression.

Chiaki Sato’s vocals take on the challenging meter with confidence.

Written and composed by Masaki Tsuño, the song was reportedly inspired by the strawberry on a convenience-store shortcake.

It likens a girl’s feelings as she imagines a future with the person she likes to the strawberry sitting atop a cake.

Released in September 2014, the track blends pop with elements of classical and contemporary music.

It’s a perfect pick for anyone who wants to savor the wavering emotions of love.
