secretYamamoto Tama, Sugita Takashi (UNFAIR RULE)

UNFAIR RULE, which includes Okayama natives Tamaha Yamamoto and Takashi Sugita, is a rock band formed in June 2019 in their hometown of Okayama.

Their sound centers on alternative rock, featuring emotional, introspective lyrics that strongly resonate with many young listeners.

In April 2023, they released their first nationally distributed record, “Itsumono Koto (Complete Edition),” and their 2025 one-man tour sold out at every show.

They’ve been gaining recognition in the music scene—highlighted in a segment on Buzz Rhythm 02 and selected for Tower Records’ “Tawarekomen.” Vocalist Yamamoto’s gentle yet resolute voice and down-to-earth lyrics tenderly support hearts troubled by the uncertainties of love and human relationships.

If you’re into emotional guitar rock, be sure to check them out.

Scat of the Sundorlis

The female singer-songwriter dorlis is from Okayama City.

It’s pronounced “Doh-ris.” While hitchhiking around the country and performing street gigs, she was scouted in front of Okayama Takashimaya and made her indie debut in 2002 with the single “Hitorigoto Mitai ni Aishiteta.” In 2005, she made her major-label debut with the single “Mariposa.” Centered on the classical guitar she has loved since childhood, her lively, rhythmically rich high-quality tracks and dorlis’s pleasant vocals will lift your spirits.

She’s especially recommended for those who enjoy a jazzy vibe.

Her worldview—depicting the push and pull of romance, said to let “poison and flowers coexist”—is also a must-hear.

Some of you may have seen her on NHK E-Tele’s “Hyada × Taiiku’s One-Room☆Music” in January 2021.

Singer-songwriter Moka Sato from Okayama has been playing various instruments since she was three and went on to study music in high school and college.

Since her 2018 album “Lukewarm,” which was highly praised by celebrities like tofubeats, she has released an album roughly once a year.

While her songs are diverse—incorporating elements of pop and jazz influenced by artists like aiko and YUI—her uniquely addictive, molten “melt voice” leaves a strong impression.

She’s a must-watch artist, especially recommended for those seeking stylish, distinctive, and mellow tracks.

And the artwork for the album “GLINTS” is striking and utterly captivating…

Chou-Uwan is a rock band based in Okayama whose dry, thunderous guitars and wistful melodies resonate deep in the chest.

They even have a unique origin story: the band was formed in 2021 at a yakitori restaurant in Okayama City.

Their music follows in the lineage of ’90s alternative, highlighted by powerful twin vocals.

After their 2022 album PEEK-A-BOO, they drew nationwide attention with 2023’s OBAKE IN TSUSHIMA-NAKA.

Their style, which marries a hefty, Dinosaur Jr.-esque sonic heft with tear-jerking, heartfelt melodies, has captivated many fans.

It’s also great how they weave local scenery—like Okayama Station—into their work.

If you love guitar rock where roaring volume and lyricism intertwine, this will strike a deep chord with you.
