Aimer’s 12th single “Akane Sasu,” released in 2016.

This song was used as the ending theme for the popular anime Natsume’s Book of Friends.

The word “akane” refers to the color of the setting sun.

Sunsets burn a beautiful red, but they also carry a quiet sadness as the day fades, don’t they? This is a track that immerses you in that scene and heightens the sense of melancholy.

Written in very beautiful language, it’s a song that lets you feel the transience of many things.

underground mallyuzu

A song with a music video that lets you enjoy the vibe of Yuzu’s youthful street-performing days.

Released in the fall of 1997, it’s a classic brimming with youthful energy and power—no lavish production or flashy gimmicks, just forceful acoustic strumming and full-throttle vocals.

It was written after receiving a love consultation from a friend, and the lyrics carry a strong message.

Chara’s distinctive voice and delicacy evoke images of late summer and autumn scenery.

cosmos (flower)Yamaguchi Momoe

An autumn classic by Momoe Yamaguchi, the singer who retired at the height of her popularity in 1980 at the young age of 21.

Her calm, poised voice—so unexpected given her neat, adorable looks—evokes lonely autumn landscapes in this timeless song.

Amazingly, it was released when she was just 19.

It’s a quintessential Showa-era ballad that young listeners should definitely hear.

Moon DropsRUI

This is the second single released under Ko Shibasaki’s stage name RUI, which came out in 2003.

It was used as both an in-film song and the theme song for the movie Yomigaeri, and because it’s a track by her character, the singer RUI, it was released under the character’s name.

The lyrics beautifully depict a mystical moon that evokes the Mid-Autumn full moon.

A beautiful song released by Sandaime J SOUL BROTHERS in the fall of 2014, whose piano intro evokes the sentiments of autumn.

The sensual, sweet vocals and the music video—filled with images of many flowers and crafted with an autumnal red as its base—leave a strong impression.

Gagaga SP “Preparation for the Festival” LIVE — 2014.03.09 @ Shibuya Chelsea Hotel
Festival preparationsgagaga supi

Speaking of autumn, school festivals really heat up, don’t they? And speaking of youth!—there’s the Kobe punk rock band Gagaga SP and their single released in 2004.

If you’ve ever fallen in love because of a school event, this one will hit especially hard.

It brings back that special rush and those bittersweet feelings, and it really gets you.

A fleeting yet fiery track where fury and sentimentality coexist.

Only being able to meet in certain places or at certain times is truly heartbreaking, isn’t it… The lyrics even toy with the thought that it might have been better never to have met at all—there’s a touch of loneliness there that’s painfully relatable.
