Autumn Songs: Songs of Fall. Classic tracks and popular recommended songs to listen to in autumn (31–40)
October birthdaysSuga Shikao

The words woven by Shikao Suga sink deeply into the heart.
On a certain day in October, the feverish protagonist wakes and remembers “your” birthday—a work where past memories and the present intersect.
Lost time, feelings for a precious person, and both strength and fragility.
This piece is included on the album “Sugarless III,” released in December 2021.
It commemorates the 25th anniversary of Shikao Suga’s debut.
Please take your time and listen closely.
Highwaykururi

This is a song by Quruli, a band from Kyoto.
It was released in 2003 as their 12th single and served as the theme song for the live-action film “Josee, the Tiger and the Fish.” Although the arrangement is simple and centered on acoustic guitar, it has a mysterious depth, as if the sound gradually spreads through your heart.
The lyrics, which sing about setting out on a journey and the courage to move forward, are also memorable.
Give it a listen in autumn when you want to calm your mind.
cosmos (flower)Moriyama Naotaro

A recommended autumn song for people living with their partner is “Akizakura.” It’s the coupling track included with Naotaro Moriyama’s debut single “Hoshikuzu no Serenade.” This love song captures the tenderness of everyday life, conveying a small yet heart-filling happiness, as if the cosmos flowers by the window are gently watching over you.
Because it’s Moriyama—an artist who evokes Japan’s four seasons and sensibilities—the imagery comes through even more vividly.
It’s a song that deepens your gratitude for peaceful days and for the one you love, in harmony with its acoustic tones.
To Those Who Know the Blue of the Skyaimyon

Autumn is a season that tends to make you feel a bit nostalgic, isn’t it? A song I recommend for indulging in that nostalgic mood is Aimyon’s “Aoi” (The Blue of the Sky).
Its melody and accompaniment, based on the familiar sound of Japanese kayōkyoku, feel so pleasant.
The black-and-white music video is also nostalgic and perfect for the fall.
MapleŌmori Motoki

Maple is a sweet love song that perfectly matches the gentle atmosphere of autumn.
It’s included on Motoki Ohmori’s streaming album Midnight—he’s the frontman of Mrs.
GREEN APPLE—and is performed as a duet with Miku Motomatsu, formerly of Prasonica.
Their soft, soothing vocals make the song especially comforting, and its lyrics, which express mutual assurance of love and heartfelt gratitude, blend with the sound to create a warm ambiance.
It’s healing to listen to alone, but even cozier when shared with a loved one.

Far, far awayMakihara Noriyuki

A singer-songwriter, Noriyuki Makihara, whose gentle, soothing voice and irresistibly catchy melodies have earned him support from a wide range of listeners.
This track, included on his third album “Kimi wa Boku no Takaramono” (“You Are My Treasure”), is widely known as one of his signature songs despite never having been released as a single.
The lyrics, said to have been written while thinking of friends from his hometown, seem to resonate with the slightly lonely feeling of autumn.
With its nostalgic melody that feels just right, it’s a classic you’ll want to listen to on long autumn nights.
I remember youYUI

When it comes to YUI’s autumn songs, this track “I remember you” comes to mind, right? It’s also known as an answer song to “Good-bye days,” the theme song for the film “Midnight Sun.” The lyrics, written as a message to someone dear who’s no longer by your side, really tug at the heartstrings.
It’s bittersweet, but this love song, overflowing with the feeling of “I love you,” is perfect for those with unrequited love as well.
If you feel like listening to a love song on an autumn evening or night, give it a try.
