Compared to the carefree fun of summer, autumn can make you feel a little lonely, don’t you think?

At times like that, what kind of songs do you feel like listening to?

I imagine songs with a mellow, slightly sentimental mood might really hit the spot, right?

In this article, I’ll introduce autumn songs that capture beautiful scenery—like autumn leaves, cosmos flowers, moon-viewing, and sunsets—along with a touch of wistfulness.

As they say, “long autumn nights,” I’ve picked out a variety of tracks, starting with ballads you’ll want to savor slowly on those long evenings.

Please enjoy!

Aimyon – Stay Like This Tonight [OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO]
Like this tonightaimyon

A singer-songwriter who has won popularity especially among younger generations with her nostalgic acoustic sound and inventive turns of phrase, Aimyon.

Her sixth major single, “Konnya Kono Mama,” used as the theme song for the TV drama “We Cannot Become Beasts,” leaves an impression with lines that evoke beer, linking with the drama’s story.

The lyrics, which portray a sentimental kind of love, seem to match perfectly with autumn nights—the time when we can’t help but feel sentimental.

With a light, shuffling beat that feels pleasant, it’s a track that brings the season of fall to mind.

Sumire September LoveSHAZNA

Megamasso – Sumire September Love (feat. IZAM) FULL
Sumire September LoveSHAZNA

It was released in 1997 as SHAZNA’s second single.

Originally, it was the sixth single by Ippu-Do, released in 1982, and SHAZNA covered the song.

As a visual kei band, they drew attention for their almost feminine appearance.

It’s a very rhythmic and cute song.

Atarayo - Forgetting You, the Quiet One in October (Music Video)
I forget you, who are so quiet, in October.atarayo

An emotional song perfect for autumn and October.

It’s the first original track released by the four-piece band Atarayo in the fall of 2020, which went viral mainly on TikTok and became a hit across streaming platforms.

A heartbreaking breakup song that resonated strongly with many in the younger generation, it draws you deeply into its world from the very beginning with an opening that feels like someone speaking directly to you.

A ballad that shines with the beautiful, distinctly Japanese expressions characteristic of Atarayo.

The words seep into you so deeply that the chorus’s melody—brimming with earnest emotion—might make you catch your breath.

Night Sky (feat. Haji→)miwa

Night Sky (feat. Haji→)miwa

Released in 2015 as miwa’s 18th single.

It’s a love ballad featuring Haji→, a singer-songwriter from Sendai.

This is her first time featuring another artist, and it turned into a very bittersweet autumn love song.

Moonlight FlowerJanne Da Arc

This is a hit song by the visual kei rock band Janne Da Arc, which unfortunately disbanded in 2019.

It drew attention as the opening theme for the anime Black Jack.

The song blends cool intensity with a touch of melancholy, making it a great recommendation for enjoying music on long autumn nights.

The title “Bunkasai no Yoru” already gives off an autumn vibe.

The word “autumn” doesn’t appear directly in the lyrics, but there are hints throughout that evoke the season and stir a sense of melancholy.

I also think it’s an interesting song in how the gap between the title “Bunkasai no Yoru” and the funky, seemingly unfitting performance creates that quintessential Base Ball Bear sense of youth.

A bird that cannot flyyuzu

Tobenai Tori (Flightless Bird) is a single released by Yuzu in 2000 and used as the theme song for the TV drama “Namida o Fuite” (Wipe Your Tears).

Although Yuzu is often associated with a bright and refreshing image, this song, being an autumn track, carries a certain sense of melancholy.

Still, the lyrics are very positive, and the chorus melody has a refreshing feel that seems to widen your narrowed outlook when you’re feeling down.

If something unpleasant happens or you’ve experienced a setback, give this song a listen.

It also pairs perfectly with an autumn sunset sky!
