Fun Balloon Art Types and How to Make Them (11–20)
swan
The balloon’s smooth, glossy curves are perfect for a graceful swan image! Twist at the boundary between the swan’s neck and body, loop the body section, and twist to secure it.
Flatten the ring, twist the center to create two loops, then pass one loop through the other and adjust the shape.
Finally, adjust the neck so it stands upright and gently curve the head.
With that, your swan balloon art is complete.
Because there are few twisting steps and the structure is simple, it’s easy for beginners with no balloon art experience to try.
Balloon Art: How to Make a Kagami Mochi (Balloon Twisting: Rice Cake)
Let’s try making kagami mochi—an essential New Year’s decoration—out of balloons! Inflate a white balloon and twist it a few centimeters from the knot.
Loop the section beyond the twist to form the first tier, then make a second loop slightly smaller than the first.
Trim any excess, and assemble it so that an orange piece—rounded and slightly inflated at the tip—sits on top.
You’ll have a smooth, cute kagami mochi! Once you’ve mastered the mochi, try making the stand to place it on, too!
Anpanman
This is the most difficult Anpanman balloon art to introduce.
Balancing the three bulges on the face is especially tricky; if the balance is off even a little, it becomes unrecognizable.

Baikinman
After you’ve made Anpanman, try this next—Baikinman! This one is also on the challenging side, but it looks super cute displayed together with Anpanman, so I highly recommend it.
You can make it with three types of balloons—white, purple, and black—and a pen.
Once you’ve managed Anpanman, I think this will be easy!
How to make a kadomatsu with balloon art
For the upcoming New Year, how about decorating with a pop and cute balloon-art kadomatsu? Inflate two colors of balloons for the base, connect them, and loop each to stack them in two tiers.
Make the bamboo section with light green balloons, attach it to the base, and finish by adding round, red-and-white balloon parts.
A kadomatsu that departs from the traditional Japanese vibe feels refreshing, doesn’t it? Instead of sticking to the classic greens and browns, it might be fun to try making it in colorful variations.
Balloon-in-balloon
If twisting and fitting things together isn’t your forte, why not try a cute arrangement where small balloons float inside a big balloon? Insert the small balloons into the large one, inflate the large balloon first, then inflate a small one, tie its neck, and push it inside.
Keep adding more balloons the same way.
It’s very important to keep a firm hold on the mouth of the large balloon while you work! Be careful so the balloons don’t pop inside as you make it.
