Origami ideas boys will want to make!
We’ll introduce origami ideas and instructions that boys will love, including playable origami toys, favorite creatures, and items perfect for pretend play.
Many of these can be made with just one sheet of origami paper, so even young children can give them a try.
Once you master the folds, try making them in different colors and patterns, or draw eyes and designs with a pen to add your own originality.
If you draw a picture on construction paper and paste your origami on top, it will add a three-dimensional feel and make a wonderful piece of art.
If you’re a boy who wants to try origami, have fun and give it a go!

Origami Ideas Boys Will Want to Make (11–20)
Rubber band shuriken

Let’s make a cool shuriken that you can launch far with a rubber band! Using a single sheet of origami paper, we’ll create a shuriken shaped like a small square.
Include a spot on part of it where you can hook the rubber band.
To launch it, hook the rubber band there, extend the hand holding the rubber band forward, and release the hand holding the shuriken.
The rubber band’s force can send it flying quite far, so it’s fun to compete with friends to see who can launch theirs the farthest.
If you change the color or pattern of the origami, it’ll be easy to tell whose shuriken is whose.
hand spinner

A popular toy with kids that you spin on your finger: the hand spinner.
Many children might already have one, but why not make one out of origami and play with a unique, original hand spinner? You’ll need three sheets of origami paper, a stapler, an awl, scissors, and a toothpick.
First, make a ninja star (shuriken) using two sheets of origami.
Use the awl to make a hole in the center—this part can be dangerous, so be sure to do it together with an adult.
Next, take the remaining sheet of origami, cut it into four equal parts, and attach the pieces to the ninja star like wings.
Finally, insert a toothpick—shortened by cutting off the pointed tip—through the hole in the center, and it’s done! Make them with your friends and have fun playing together!
rubber band gun

Let’s make a rubber band gun that you can also use for target practice! You’ll need one sheet of origami paper in your favorite color or pattern, one sheet of A4 paper, cellophane tape, scissors, and rubber bands.
The origami paper will be used for the gun’s handle.
The rest—the barrel and trigger—will be made from the A4 paper.
Combine each part to form the shape of the gun.
By pushing the trigger section upward, the attached rubber band releases and shoots forward.
It’s very easy to make, so try using it not only for target practice but also for rubber band shooting competitions! However, never aim or shoot at people.
Monster Ball

Many people love Pokémon, known from the anime and games.
One fun recommendation is an origami Poké Ball.
The idea is to use the front of a red origami sheet to represent the red part of the ball and the back side for the white part.
If you use purple paper, you can make a Master Ball; use blue to create an Ultra Ball.
The folding method is simple, so making a bunch and lining them up like in the series would look great.
You could also display them alongside Pokémon figures.
shield

Didn’t you ever admire the hero’s shield when you were a kid? Let’s try making a cool shield like that with origami! You can make it with just one sheet, and the folding is relatively simple, so it’s great for little kids too.
There’s a handle on the back of the shield, so you can play with it after folding—that’s a nice bonus! Also, since the back side of the paper becomes part of the design, using double-sided origami paper is recommended.
You can freely customize it by changing the paper colors.
And if you make a sword to go with the shield, it’ll be perfect for pretend play.
cicada

Let’s try making cicadas out of origami—the insects that all start chirping loudly in summer! Choose brown or black origami paper to match your favorite kind of cicada and give it a try.
First, fold the paper into a triangle.
Then fold both sides toward the center so that the edges end up on top.
Fold the part you just folded down about halfway, and then fold the lower section upward in the same staggered, halfway manner.
Finally, fold the corners on both sides diagonally inward, and you’re done.
If you like, add eyes using a pen or round stickers.

fighter jet

There are lots of boys who admire cool fighter jets, right? How about trying to make one yourself? Using three sheets of origami paper, we’ll create the fuselage and wings of the jet.
Make the nose of the jet as a long, narrow triangle, and make a larger triangle for the fuselage, then attach it to the nose.
After attaching them, fold the edges inward toward the center to make it long and slender.
For the wings, make a large triangle and attach it to the part where the nose and fuselage are joined.
Finally, fold part of the wing tips upward, and you’re done! Choose your origami while thinking about where you want each color or pattern to appear, and give it a try.
