BRAHMAN is a rock band formed in 1995.

Centered around vocalist TOSHI-LOW, they continue to create music characterized by hardcore punk infused with elements of world and folk music.

Their hybrid style is truly one of a kind, standing out prominently in today’s rock scene.

In this article, we’ll introduce a wide range of their songs all at once! We’ll highlight recommended tracks—including live staples and songs with enduring popularity among fans—so this should be especially helpful for newcomers to BRAHMAN!

BRAHMAN's masterpieces and popular songs (11–20)

BASISBRAHMAN

A track included on their second overall release and first album on a major label, A FORLORN HOPE.

With a high-speed beat driven by classic guitar strokes that any melodic hardcore fan will instantly recognize, vocals that switch between a wistful singing voice and shouts, and a song structure that stirs your emotions through its contrast of calm and intensity, it has a refreshing appeal that draws in even non-fans.

It’s a great entry point for those new to BRAHMAN and a number that showcases the band’s wide musical range.

Answer For…BRAHMAN

A track that brilliantly allows a band style—one that fuses mixture sound with ethnic music, which is hard to picture at first glance—to coexist within a single song.

It’s a song recorded during their indie-era masterpiece “A MAN OF THE WORLD” and rerecorded for their 7th album “ETERNAL RECURRENCE,” and you can really feel the impact in the contrast between the verse and the chorus.

Changing the mood and tempo multiple times within a performance is a demanding arrangement that’s tough for many bands unless their breathing is perfectly in sync, yet they execute it flawlessly live as well—this number showcases the caliber of the band BRAHMAN.

FOR ONE’S LIFEBRAHMAN

This is “For One’s Life,” the opening track on their second album, A FORLORN HOPE.

From the fleeting, fragile intro to the key change that surges into a passionate verse that makes you feel “life” itself—it’s irresistible! It’s under two minutes long and written in English, yet it’s packed tightly with ideas that make you reflect on life.

That’s how Brahman’s music deepens life.

And on the album, the flow into the following classic, “Basis,” is absolutely perfect!

conformity; blindly following others; parroting others’ opinionsBRAHMAN

“Raidō,” the second track on the 2018 album Bonbai, was created around the concept of fuwa raidō—mindlessly conforming to others without having one’s own will.

There are moments that make even me snap to attention as I listen, but the fact that it’s a BRAHMAN song alone seems to give it a certain persuasiveness.

There are many songs like this that help set me straight, so try listening while reflecting on the meaning of the lyrics!

DEEPBRAHMAN

This work is Brahman’s first single, “Deep.” It was re-recorded with a different arrangement for the album “A FORLORN HOPE.” I think the title “Deep” here means something like the bottom or rock bottom, rather than “profound.” It’s a piece packed with a powerful message: rise up from there.

Although it’s a track with strong hardcore elements, even listening now, I feel Brahman’s core has never changed.

Brahman, who can stick to such an incredibly cool style, is truly a one-of-a-kind band!

The VoidBRAHMAN

“The Void,” the opening track on their third album THE MIDDLE WAY.

Within just about 15 seconds, the uniquely ethnic guitar tone grabs you by the chest, followed by TOSHI-LOW’s overwhelmingly passionate vocals—it hit me like a shock the first time I heard it.

The song’s dynamic structure, where stillness and movement coexist, and the profound lyrics that weave a distinctive worldview—this is quintessential BRAHMAN.

It’s an enduring masterpiece, especially beloved by longtime fans.

WASTENEW!BRAHMAN

A track that brings their seventh album, viraha, to a close.

The lyrics were co-written by TOSHI-LOW and Takeshi Hosomi, and it also drew attention for Hosomi’s participation on backing vocals.

Its straightforward, hardcore-leaning sound conveys the band’s history and raw impulse.

Their intensity is distilled here—experience that power for yourself.
