Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture

The setting of the story in Crayon Shin-chan is Kasukabe City in Saitama Prefecture. The town where Shinnosuke and the Nohara family live is also modeled on Kasukabe, and in the real Kasukabe City you can find Crayon Shin-chan-themed manhole covers and character statues. Since the original creator, Yoshito Usui, had a close connection to Kasukabe, the city is cherished as a pilgrimage spot for the series.

Professor Yoshinaga

The teacher in charge of the Sakura class at Futaba Kindergarten, which Shin-chan attends, is Ms. Yoshinaga. Despite Shin-chan’s mischief, she’s shown keeping the whole class well under control. Precisely because she’s portrayed alongside Shin-chan and the others, her seriousness really stands out as a character trait.

Buriburizaemon is an original pig character created based on a drawing Shin-chan made in kindergarten. The five of them, including Shin-chan, formed a close-knit group called the Kasukabe Defense Force. While their stated goal is to protect the love and peace of Kasukabe, since the five are always together, they also come across as just play buddies. Chocobi

Shin-chan’s favorite snack is “Chocobi,” and scenes of him getting it bought for him and eating it are often depicted.
