Professor Yoshinaga

The teacher in charge of the Sakura class at Futaba Kindergarten, which Shin-chan attends, is Ms. Yoshinaga. Despite Shin-chan’s mischief, she’s shown keeping the whole class well under control. Precisely because she’s portrayed alongside Shin-chan and the others, her seriousness really stands out as a character trait.

Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture

The setting of the story in Crayon Shin-chan is Kasukabe City in Saitama Prefecture. The town where Shinnosuke and the Nohara family live is also modeled on Kasukabe, and in the real Kasukabe City you can find Crayon Shin-chan-themed manhole covers and character statues. Since the original creator, Yoshito Usui, had a close connection to Kasukabe, the city is cherished as a pilgrimage spot for the series.

Himawari, Shin-chan’s little sister, is not only known for loving shiny things but also for being a character who adores handsome men. Even as a baby, she’s comically depicted with sparkling eyes when she sees a good-looking guy, snuggling up to him and seeking attention. Like this playful desire, her charm isn’t just in being cute—her strong, quirky personality is a big part of what makes Himawari so appealing.

Buriburizaemon

Buriburizaemon is an original pig character created based on a drawing Shin-chan made in kindergarten. In the series, he plays an active role as a hero in Shin-chan’s imagination and in plays within the show. In the movies, he also shines by teaming up with Shin-chan to overcome difficulties, making him a character with a wide range of appealing exploits.

Chocobi

Shin-chan’s favorite snack is “Chocobi,” and scenes of him getting it bought for him and eating it are often depicted. Chocobi is a chocolate-flavored snack with a striking package featuring a large character design; it’s actually sold in real life and is beloved by fans. It’s an important treat in the series, and Shin-chan always looks so happy when he’s eating Chocobi.

Shin-chan calls the kindergarten principal the “boss.” He started jokingly using that nickname because of the principal’s appearance. Despite his looks, the principal is kind and gentle, but every so often his behavior matches his tough appearance, which spices up the story.

Kasukabe Defense Force

The five of them, including Shin-chan, formed a close-knit group called the Kasukabe Defense Force. While their stated goal is to protect the love and peace of Kasukabe, since the five are always together, they also come across as just play buddies. That said, in the movies and such, they do show solid achievements as a defense force, so that’s something to look out for as well.
