[Classic] Introducing famous songs about love
In classical music, which mostly consists of pieces without lyrics, there are actually many works themed around love.
Even with pieces you already know, understanding the composer’s intentions and background can change the way you hear them dramatically—so take this opportunity to explore classical love songs.
These works, each expressing different forms of love, may convey something meaningful to us living today, transcending time.
Songs about love with lyrics are wonderful, of course, but I hope this also conveys the appeal of classical music that expresses itself through melody and resonance alone.

[Classics] Introducing Famous Songs About Love (31–40)
From Lyric Pieces, Book VIII: Wedding Day at TroldhaugenEdvard Grieg

The piece begins with a light, cheerful rhythm.
The joy of the wedding is so great that the couple seems ready to break into a little dance together.
The middle section grows quiet, but the bright rhythm returns.
In the end, you can almost hear thunderous applause all around.
It’s a piece that makes you so happy while listening that you can’t help but smile.
RequiemGabriel Urbain Fauré

It’s a very romantic piece.
Although it’s a religious work, it doesn’t feel difficult to approach.
The singing voice flows in pleasantly.
It makes me feel as if my stray thoughts are being swept away, as if my heart is being cleansed.
Rather than for the passionate beginning of love, it’s a song I’d like to listen to quietly during a slightly more settled period.
In conclusion
I’ve introduced some classic love songs.
They come from different eras and countries, but the depth of feeling for a loved one is something they all share.
Some of the stories may be hard to imagine today, but I hope you enjoyed listening!
