Recommended classical masterpieces for BGM: Soothing classical music (41–50)
Scenes from Childhood, Op. 15 No. 7 “Träumerei”Robert Schumann

A representative work by Robert Schumann whose dreamy, beautiful melody will make you swoon.
It is included as the seventh piece in his 1838 collection Scenes from Childhood, Op.
15, a piano work for adults that portrays a child’s spirit.
Among the pieces in the set, this one is especially famous and is performed not only on the piano but also on various instruments such as violin, cello, and flute, captivating not just classical music fans but countless listeners.
You can savor it by listening closely, or immerse yourself in the beauty of its melody and harmony by playing it on the piano.
Enjoy it at leisure on a quiet night.
In a Persian marketAlbert Ketèlbey

Persia is what we now call modern-day Iran, a vast land and a country active in trade.
Given the title “Persian Market,” the occasional bells heard in the piece might be the bells attached to horses.
It’s a composition that conveys the lively atmosphere of a market, with people calling out energetically.
Rich in exotic flair, the unison violin passages are a highlight.
It definitely evokes a Middle Eastern market scene.
swanCamille Saint-Saëns

The Carnival of the Animals consists of 14 pieces, depicting creatures like elephants, kangaroos, and tortoises, but because many movements parody and poke fun at other works, it was not published during the composer’s lifetime.
Among them, “The Swan” is famous as a ballet piece under the title “The Dying Swan.” In the ballet, it portrays a lone swan on a lake, wounded and struggling as it tries to take flight.
At my school, it was even used as the background music at dismissal.
Trumpet VoluntaryClark

It is a piece composed by Jeremiah Clarke of the Kingdom of England as the Prince of Denmark’s March.
The trumpet’s tone has none of the intimidating force that might rally an army; instead, it is thoroughly ceremonious, and you can almost picture the prince’s entrance.
It really is a perfect background track for the entrance of an honored person.
It is used as wedding BGM, and in some regions it has been adopted as the pre-opening music at cultural halls.
For some, hearing this piece brings a sense of excitement that a concert is about to begin.
It might also work well to play just the opening melody as a jingle.
GymnopédiesErik Satie

A signature work by Erik Satie whose translucent melodies seep into the heart.
Composed in 1888, these three piano pieces were named after ancient Greek rituals.
Amid the gentle tones reminiscent of watercolor paintings, the occasional poignant chords leave a strong impression.
They are frequently used as background music in films and television programs, and their universal appeal has influenced many artists.
When you want to take a breather in your busy daily life or calm your mind, why not give them a listen? Flowing with a sense of tranquility, this work will surely become an oasis for your heart.
