A song to support recovery from the earthquake disaster. Connecting a circle of reconstruction support through music [Ganbarō Nippon / Let’s keep going, Japan].

[To everyone affected by the earthquake off the eastern coast of Aomori Prefecture in 2025] We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all who have been impacted by this earthquake.

Earthquakes are one of the natural disasters that cannot be avoided as long as we live in Japan.

Many large earthquakes have occurred in the past, bringing great sorrow and hardship.

Yet each time, support has arrived not only from within Japan but from around the world.

Among these recovery efforts, there has been a great deal of support through music, with musicians across the globe releasing many songs filled with hopes for recovery from the disaster.

“May music help even one more disaster survivor regain their strength…” In this article, we introduce a selection of such songs that embody this sincere wish.

“Mangetsu no Yube” (Full Moon Evening) was released in 1995 as a single by Soul Flower Union.

Co-written by Soul Flower Union’s Takashi Nakagawa and Heatwave’s Yo Yamaguchi, the song has been released by both bands.

Numerous artists have covered it; it’s also well known for BRAHMAN’s rendition.

The song is about the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, and its title refers to the fact that the night of the disaster was a full moon.

It’s a song that brings tears to your eyes the moment you hear it.

This song carries a powerful message within its reggae sound.

Released digitally in June 2024, it was produced primarily by LIFESTYLE to support recovery efforts for the Noto Peninsula earthquake.

Esteemed artists representing Japan’s reggae scene, including CHEHON and VIGORMAN, took part.

A charity event was also held in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, in July of the same year.

It’s a track that conveys the desire to stand with and encourage those affected.

I’d love for anyone facing hardship to give it a listen.

This song, “Aa,” was released in June 2011 as Superfly’s 13th single.

The album “Mind Travel,” which came out before this single, includes an instrumental version under the title “Ah.” Even among those affected by the earthquake, everyone thinks differently, and some feelings may be kept locked up inside.

There’s no single right answer for emotions or thoughts—and that uncertainty can breed anxiety—but this song has the power to make you feel that “it’s okay” to have that haze of confusion.

“Inochi no Uta” (Song of Life) is a piece that expresses the joy and gratitude of being born on this planet.

Originally released by the musical duo ManaKana as an insert song for the NHK morning drama series Dandan, it was later covered by Mariya Takeuchi herself.

Carried by a gentle melody that softly cradles feelings of anxiety and loneliness, her warm voice resonates throughout.

After the earthquake, even when it was hard to accept the reality before us, the presence of loved ones could give us courage.

Precisely because the situation was difficult, this is a recovery-encouragement song portraying people supporting one another.

Created as a support song for areas affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake, it carries a strong message of recovery.

Uplifting imagery—like cold snow melting as spring arrives, and colors returning to the city with the dawn—resonates deeply.

Let Ishigaki’s warm voice soothe you as you imagine a brighter future.
