GReeeeN’s “Tsubomi” was written as the theme song for TBS’s 10th anniversary project for the Great East Japan Earthquake, “Tsunagu, Tsunagaru,” which conveys the sentiments and lessons from the affected areas through news and special programs.
The leader, HIDE, reportedly took part in postmortem examinations for victim identification as a dentist starting the month after the disaster.
You can feel a variety of emotions in their music, born from their firsthand knowledge of the reality on the ground.

Evening of the full moonSōru Furawā Yunion

“Mangetsu no Yube” (Full Moon Evening) was released in 1995 as a single by Soul Flower Union.
Co-written by Soul Flower Union’s Takashi Nakagawa and Heatwave’s Yo Yamaguchi, the song has been released by both bands.
Numerous artists have covered it; it’s also well known for BRAHMAN’s rendition.
The song is about the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, and its title refers to the fact that the night of the disaster was a full moon.
It’s a song that brings tears to your eyes the moment you hear it.
Be the lightONE OK ROCK

“Be The Light,” a song included on ONE OK ROCK’s sixth album, Jinsei×Boku=, released in 2013.
This track was created as a song for post-disaster recovery, and it expresses feelings toward the countless incidents, accidents, and disasters around the world that can seem utterly senseless.
Although the lyrics are entirely in English, official videos featuring translated lyrics in six languages—English, Japanese, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Chinese—have been released.
It’s a number that brings light to painful hearts.
Green boysGReeeeN

GReeeeN’s songs always warm people’s hearts with their passionate messages.
Their song “Green boys” is a message to those working toward recovery from the earthquake disaster and to those who carry emotional scars.
Although the song is included on their fourth album released in 2012, it was made available for free for a limited time after the disaster.
Many listeners were likely encouraged by GReeeeN’s characteristically positive and powerful lyrics.
It’s a song that gives you the strength to face forward.

A signature song by WANIMA, the band from Kumamoto, that delivers a passionate message: “Precisely when times are tough, let’s lift our heads and move forward together!” Just listening to it stirs the heart—its powerful sound and warm words strike a chord, filling you with the bonds of friendship and hope for tomorrow.
Featured on the single JUICE UP!! released in August 2016, it captured many hearts as the CM song for Nivea Kao’s 8×4.
The track also carries prayers for the earthquake that struck their hometown of Kumamoto during production, singing earnestly of the preciousness of life and love for one’s roots.
It’s a heartwarming anthem that stands by you at life’s turning points or when you’re feeling low, offering strong, encouraging support.
HINOMARU REVIVALLIFESTYLE

This song carries a powerful message within its reggae sound.
Released digitally in June 2024, it was produced primarily by LIFESTYLE to support recovery efforts for the Noto Peninsula earthquake.
Esteemed artists representing Japan’s reggae scene, including CHEHON and VIGORMAN, took part.
A charity event was also held in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, in July of the same year.
It’s a track that conveys the desire to stand with and encourage those affected.

The day called tomorrowNatsukawa Rimi

A song that was originally a poem to which music was later added.
With the vast sky as its theme, it expresses the beauty of living and portrays the belief in tomorrow even in difficult circumstances.
Released as a single in September 2011, it was tied up as a choral piece supporting recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Rimi Natsukawa and Masafumi Akikawa co-created the work and each released it on CD, also performing together on year-end music programs.
For those whose everyday lives were taken by the disaster and who feel they cannot see the light, listening to this piece will surely inspire them to face their wounded hearts.
Even when it’s hard, tomorrow will come—this song teaches us to believe in ourselves and overcome.
