Yumi Matsutoya’s transparent, crystalline vocals resonate deep in the heart.

Originally included on the album “acacia,” released in June 2001, this piece was inspired by the acacia blossoms in Uchinada, Ishikawa.

Twenty-three years later, it was released as a charity single to support recovery from the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake.

The lyrics strikingly blend a nostalgic atmosphere with hope for the future.

It’s a song that will surely accompany anyone feeling anxiety or loneliness in an unfamiliar place, while holding expectations for new encounters.

ROCKETMAN is the musical moniker of comedian Ryo Fukawa, and this song—created with singer-songwriter Ai Kawashima—expresses heartfelt feelings for Tohoku.

The chorus features the voices of about 200 people, including residents of Minamisanriku, staff and residents of Ishinomaki City Hall, and volunteer workers.

Come, spring.Matsutōya Yumi

Originally released in 1994 and now a staple spring song, this track was re-recorded as a charity project to support disaster-stricken areas and distributed worldwide, with all proceeds donated.

In addition to the comedy duo Sandwichman, who hail from an affected region, notable figures who supported the cause—such as Mitsu Mangrove and Yoshino Kimura—also joined the chorus.

An ambitious work of electronic dance-pop, released in 2011 as the lead track on the album “Beautiful World.” Created with a message of hope and recovery for Japan following the Great East Japan Earthquake, it also marked the first music video for an album track in about eight years.

Its powerful beats and synthesizers evoke a near-futuristic soundscape that pairs with lyrics about the will to keep moving forward in the face of hardship, resonating deeply with listeners.

When you need the courage to dive into a new environment, this piece will give you a push.

The Japanese title “A Shelter from the Storm” is a song included on Bob Dylan’s 15th album, Blood on the Tracks.

While the work decadently portrays scenes of disasters, conflicts, and various hardships, when you unravel it, you find that it’s actually an uplifting anthem with a highly positive message.

The tune itself is very bright, with a country flavor.

IF YOU WANTHimuro Kyosuke

This is a reconstruction support song for the Great East Japan Earthquake, released by Kyosuke Himuro in March 2012.

Although the piece had been completed before the disaster, it is said that after the quake he repeatedly revised parts of the lyrics and released it as a song dedicated to Japan today.

It’s a track that radiates the kind of boundless love characteristic of Himurock.

The beautiful, warm melody is soothing to the heart as well.
