It’s an uptempo, high-energy pop song.

After a life full of ups and downs, the grandpa declares, “I’ll keep chasing love even after I’m dead!” and sets out to find a hot girl, aiming for bodcon style.

With this much pep, he’ll probably live to 100—what a relief.

His wife might have her hands full, though…

JijyAkiyama Kanpei

This song was released in 1991, when Yoshimoto Shinkigeki, the troupe Kanpei Hazama belongs to, was beginning to gain nationwide recognition.

The lyrics and music were written by Masayuki Yamamoto.

The fact that Hazama was playing a rampaging grandpa on the Shinkigeki stage at the time may have been what inspired him to sing this song.

Released in 1992.

The theme is a reminiscence of a heartwarming connection with a grandpa met while traveling abroad.

When delivered with Mariko Takahashi’s melodious vocals, even memories of heartbreak come across as a breezy, grown-up story.

Wind Chimes of That DayAKB48

When it comes to songs that evoke nostalgic scenes from one’s boyhood, “That Day’s Wind Chime” comes to mind.

It was included on the theater edition of AKB48’s 2012 single “Gingham Check.” Characterized by a clear, translucent melody that depicts a boy’s pure heart, the group’s cute vocals are accompanied by moving piano tones.

It’s a track that gently spreads a sense of nostalgia—memories that continue to support the heart even into adulthood.

Why not share it along with your gratitude to a beloved grandpa or grandma?

Takashi Yanase, a manga artist, is also known as the lyricist of songs such as “Tenohira o Taiyō ni,” and in 2003 he even released an album he sang himself, titled “Nostalgia Grandpa.” This song shares the same title and was recorded when he was 84 years old.

They are 80 years old.Tenchi Satoko / Shimojō Atomu

It’s a pop-style male–female duet based on an old Jewish folk song.

It portrays an 80-year-old grandpa and grandma sharing rice crackers together, sipping tea while looking at the sunflowers in their garden, and spending their days enjoying conversations with each other in a quiet home with few visitors.

The gentle lyrics are really lovely.

Grandfather’s 11 monthsKurikōdā Karutetto
