Shoulder Tapping Songdōyō

It’s a children’s song where you rhythmically pat someone’s shoulders to express gratitude and appreciation to a parent.
The bright, light sound is striking, conveying a child’s cheerful feelings toward their parent and the lively atmosphere of the moment.
The way the child speaks while patting the shoulders is also a key point, and the lyrics directly communicate the love and trust between parent and child.
It’s a song that could make listeners recall their own childhood, and it also seems fun to actually sing it while patting someone’s shoulders and speaking to them.
A Song for When You’re Left Speechlesstama

It’s a lively, folk-style pop song used as the ending theme for the TV anime Chibi Maruko-chan, with lyrics written by the original creator, Momoko Sakura.
One day, as usual, the mother is relaxing at home watching TV when—lo and behold—Grandpa from their own household appears on a talent show and starts singing enka.
Now that’s a shock.
Just what kind of song was he singing, I wonder?
Invincible GrandpaMukkī Tezuka

It’s a lively comic song that was aired on NHK’s “Minna no Uta.” It’s the kind of tune that makes you chuckle without thinking.
Anyway, there’s an incredibly strong grandpa in it.
If you had a grandpa like that, you’d have nothing to fear! Give it a listen sometime.
cradlesaji

Saji is a rock band based in Hokkaido.
“Yurikago” was released as the lead single from their 2022 album, Eureka.
In the first verse, it depicts a young boy and his grandmother strengthening their bond; in the second, the boy enters a rebellious phase and hurls hurtful words; and in the final part, the two reaffirm their connection.
Because it has a well-defined storyline, you can enjoy it as if you’re reading a short tale—and the twist at the end is sure to warm your heart.
Deworming Lullabysadamasashi

It’s a song that feels like a scene from Sada’s theater, brimming with realism.
On a certain TV program, Shinjii Tanimura—also a singer-songwriter like Sada—mentioned, “I teach at a university as a professor and teach students how to write lyrics.” He said the crucial point in lyric writing is to use a single word to evoke exactly what you want to convey.
But when it comes to Sada’s lyrics, he joked that they’re “just too long.” This song is about memories with a late grandfather.
Please give it a listen.
Song of Yoshida Townyoshida takurou

This song was composed in 1991 at the request of the volunteer group “Wakamono Republic” in Yoshida Town, Niigata Prefecture, who approached him because of the shared name Yoshida and asked for “a song that would be a source of hope and nourishment for the townspeople’s hearts.” It has none of the festive feel of a typical town-promotion song, and perhaps Takuro Yoshida even overlaid elements of the life he himself has carried.

Long live old age!Jii-POP from Kōchike ALL STARS

This music video featuring a five-man grandpa group totally nailing it is part of the NIPPON POSITIVE PROJECT, which started in March 2016 at the initiative of the governor of Kochi Prefecture.
It’s not J-POP but “G-POP,” aiming to energize Japan’s super-aged society.
By the way, the five members’ average age is 67.
They’re all still going strong!
