Grandpa’s New Year’s gift

The children’s song “Grandpa’s Age” has lyrics by Takeshi Shoji and music by Hideo Kobayashi.
Shoji was a lyricist who wrote lyrics for children’s songs, and Kobayashi was a composer who wrote operas and art songs, as well as children’s songs such as “Bright Red Autumn.” It’s a lovely piece that conveys a cheerful and gentle personality—when asked his age, Grandpa just laughs it off, saying he’s forgotten.
Mr.Benkurofukurouzu

It’s a poppy, upbeat tune.
The old homeless man you always see in the park basks in the sun, gazing off with seemingly no worries.
He’s easygoing, cheerfully tending campfires, free-spirited… The song portrays a young man’s feelings as he envies him, wondering, “How can he live such a happy life?” If you tried striking up a conversation with him just once, you might find out why.
Mottainai Grandma OndoMasuda Hiroko

The picture book Mottainai Grandma by Mariko Shinju, which became a bestseller in 2004, features a superhuman grandmother who stops people from doing wasteful things in everyday life.
This song is included in a CD book of the same title, with the author, Shinju, also writing the lyrics.

Grandfather’s IslandKawashima Anamu
Anam Kawashima is the daughter of singer Eigo Kawashima, who passed away in April 2001.
Although she’s a woman and doesn’t have a similar voice, having grown up watching her father’s performances from a young age, Anam’s singing style is remarkably similar to her father Eigo’s.
“Grandfather’s Island” is a song that puts into music the words of a young man who left the island and those of his late grandparents.
dandelionMatsushita Kohei

With a gentle acoustic sound and a warm, tender voice, Kohei Matsushita delivers an encouraging song that resonates deeply in the heart.
Imbued with the desire to become a flower that blooms for a loved one, this piece brims with the purity of caring for someone and the wish to do whatever one can for them.
Included on the album “R&ME,” released in December 2023, the song was written and composed by Matsushita himself, who also created the album’s illustrations.
It’s the perfect track for expressing gratitude or quietly conveying your feelings to someone special.
shoulder massagenono-chan (Murakata Nonoka)

Nonoka Murakata, also known as Nonoka-chan, is also famous for winning the Grand Prix at the Children’s Song Contest.
The song in which she sings about her love for her grandpa and grandma is “Katatataki.” It’s a piece that depicts a child giving a shoulder massage and expressing the wish for them to stay healthy forever.
Because the lyrics convey the message so directly, it seems like a good song for expressing love.
It might also be nice to sing it while actually giving a shoulder massage.
GratitudeHajime Chitose

Chitose Hajime, a singer who has stood out since her debut with vocals that prominently feature the distinctive melodic inflections of Amami folk music.
The track “Kansha,” included on her 12th major-label album, The Foot of the Rainbow, makes a striking impression with an opening that unfolds in rich, spacious choral layers.
Its lyrics, which express gratitude for ordinary, uneventful days, seem to carry a message that can enrich the heart simply by bringing awareness to them.
It’s a gentle number whose acoustic ensemble soothes the soul and leaves you feeling calm and kind.
