In addition to enka, she worked across a wide range of genres, from kayōkyoku to even jazz.

In Jinsei Ittsu, while it firmly retains the essence of enka, the overall melody leans toward a catchy kayōkyoku style.

Although there are many fine kobushi ornamentations, if you can master the hiccup-style vocal technique, the kobushi remain within a range you can reproduce without issue.

So if you have a certain understanding of enka, you should be able to sing it smoothly.

Harumi Miyako, an enka singer known for her powerful vocal style dubbed the “Harumi-bushi,” leaves a strong impression.

Anyone familiar with enka has likely heard of her.

While her songs are often considered generally difficult to sing, there are some that are quite catchy.

Among them, the one I especially recommend is Osaka Shigure.

Compared to many of Miyako’s songs, this piece features more melismatic ornamentation (kobushi) on higher pitches rather than the growling, shout-like kobushi, so it doesn’t demand as much sheer power.

At the same time, the melody itself is bright, making it both easy to sing and capable of generating excitement.
