How about making dolls and clothes out of felt and enjoying some dress-up play? The doll’s motif can be anything you like—a girl, or your favorite character.

Since the clothes will be swapped, it’s best if they’re easy to put on and take off.

Try making outfits that open in the back or fasten with snap buttons.

Besides clothing, it could be fun to make small accessories like hair clips or bags.

Create plenty of dolls and outfits, and enjoy styling them to match your mood each day.

Don’t you feel like making a plushie of your favorite character or one you’ve designed yourself using felt? Here’s an idea for a “plushie” you can make without sewing.

All you need is double-sided fabric tape, which you can find in the craft section of 100-yen shops.

Start by creating a pattern.

Use tracing paper to make even the small parts like the eyes and nose.

Then just cut the felt according to the pattern and stick the pieces together with the fabric tape.

Finally, stuff the body with filling and seal it with the double-sided tape, and you’re done! They’re so cute you might end up wanting to make a bunch of them.

Would you like to make The Very Hungry Caterpillar out of felt, a character children adore? It’s a great educational toy for little ones—they can move the caterpillar, and practice fastening and unfastening buttons.

Start by making the caterpillar’s face and attach the first body segment with a snap fastener.

Then add buttons and buttonholes so kids can freely rearrange the rest.

It’s fun to watch the body wiggle just like a real caterpillar.

If you have a sewing machine, making the buttonholes is easy, but you can sew them by hand, too.

Let’s try making a very cute hedgehog as a felt craft! The base will be an egg-shaped piece of Styrofoam.

First, attach the felt that will become the hedgehog’s face to the pointed end of the egg shape.

For the hedgehog’s spines, wrap the body with strips of felt that you’ve cut lengthwise and snipped into a series of V-shaped notches to create a zigzag edge.

If you run out partway through, you can add more—just make them the same way.

Finally, attach the parts for the hands and feet, ears, eyes, and nose, and you’re done.

The spiky section has a nice three-dimensional look, making for an adorable hedgehog that will look cute displayed in your room.

You can even draw the templates freehand and create the shapes you like.

Place the template on the felt and cut it out; once you have all the parts, just use a glue gun to attach the fishing line for hanging and glue the pieces together.

Isn’t it great that you can easily make a stylish, store-bought-looking mobile with items you already have at home? Another nice point is that you can customize the shapes and lengths however you like.
