The University of Shimane is a public university headquartered in Nohara-cho, Hamada City, Shimane Prefecture, established in 2000. It aims to serve as a research hub focused on countries around the Sea of Japan. The university consists of three campuses—Hamada, Izumo, and Matsue—and its mascot is Ororin, inspired by the Yamata no Orochi. The school festival at the Hamada Campus is called Kaiyusai.

University Festival | Elisabeth University of MusicMay 16 (Sat) – 17 (Sun), Hiroshima Prefecture

Since Elisabeth University of Music is, as the name suggests, a music university, it seems they also hold concerts. There are also food stalls and bazaars. In the summer, Hiroshima University holds a summer festival with the theme of yukata. There’s a “Yukata Discount,” where wearing a yukata gets you a discount on products, and a “Dressing Room,” where teachers will help you put on a yukata for free. There’s also the inter-faculty Hiroshima University Olympics, so it’s sure to be a lively event!

The Minazuki Festival, held since June 1977 (Showa 52), is a traditional event. It is divided into morning and afternoon sessions. In each, there are sports events as well as food stalls and stage performances organized by clubs and other groups. The girls’ cavalry battle, held from the very first festival to the present as one of the main events of the school festival, has become an early-summer tradition in Miyano. With numerous stage programs presented by student circles, you’re sure to enjoy the festivities all day long!

Tanabata Festival | Yamaguchi UniversitySaturday, 7/4, Yamaguchi Prefecture

There are rough-and-tumble events like the annual tradition of tossing the year’s committee chair into the air on a portable shrine, as well as participatory stage events.
