[For Costumes and Cosplay] How to Make a Cute Bunny Ears Headband (1–10)
Headband you can make without sewing

Let’s make a felt bunny-ear headband! You can find felt at 100-yen shops, so check there.
First, cut the felt into ear shapes.
Place wire, bent into the same ear shape, on the inside of the felt and secure it with a hot glue gun.
Then cover the wire with another piece of fabric that will form the inner part of the ear and glue it down.
Make two of these.
Next, create the headband base with papercraft and attach an elastic cord to the ends.
Finally, fix the bunny ears wherever you like on the base and you’re done! Prepare the elastic cord long enough to tie under the chin.
Transform into a rabbit with a paper cup

Let’s make a bunny ear headband using paper cups! First, draw two vertical lines on each side of the paper cup.
Make each strip about 3 cm wide.
Cut along those lines, and on just one of the strips, cut off the rim.
Do the same with another paper cup, then overlap the parts where you cut off the rims and tape them together.
Next, trim the back portions of the cups that remain at the front and back, and you’ll have the base of the headband and the ear sections.
Round off the ear shapes, make slightly smaller inner ears from pink construction paper and glue them on, then attach rubber bands to both ends of the base.
It’s done! Hook it over your ears to wear it.
Fluffy bunny ears

To keep the seams inconspicuous, use a napped fabric.
Prepare one 8 cm × 33 cm piece for the base, one 7 cm × 30 cm piece for the elastic casing, four 12 cm × 7 cm pieces for the ears, and a 17 cm length of 1 cm-wide elastic.
Sew the fabric following the pattern; the basic method is to place the pieces right sides together and sew with a 1 cm seam allowance, leaving the bottom edge open.
Sandwich the ear pieces into the base, sew them in place, and you’re done.
The fluffy ears feel irresistibly soft against the skin.

Bunny ears made of wool

Here’s an idea for making a bunny-ear headband with wool.
Bundle three chenille stems together and twist the top and bottom to form the base of one ear.
Since each ear uses three stems, prepare six in total.
Layer several thinly spread sheets of wool over the base, and do the same on the back side.
On the front, add pink-dyed wool for the inner ear, matching the shape of the stems.
When you’re done layering, place it in a sink, cover with a towel, and pour hot water and then laundry detergent over it, rubbing well to felt it.
Once felted, remove the towel, wrap the piece in bubble wrap and knead it, then rinse thoroughly with water, squeeze out the excess, spread it out, and let it dry.
When dry, cut the ears to shape with scissors and attach them to a headband by securing with the chenille stems.
Finished!

Bunny-ear headbands are super cute fashion items! And the fact that you can make them by hand is wonderful.
You can create your own original version by choosing a ribbon style or changing the color combinations.
Many of the materials can be found at 100-yen shops, so it’s easy to give it a try.
The instructions are explained clearly, which makes them easy to follow—that’s a nice plus.
It also sounds fun to make them together as a parent-child activity.
They’d be great not only for costumes and cosplay but also as everyday accessories.
How about making your very own cute bunny ears?
Bunny ears made with origami

This is a bunny-ear headband made with origami.
You’ll need three sheets of origami paper of the same size and one elastic cord for the band part.
Its hallmark is the perky, upright bunny ears, but there are quite a few folding steps, so it might be difficult for children to make.
Have an adult do the folding and give it as a gift to your child.
Choose the color of the origami to match the color of the bunny ears you want to make.
If you want white ears, you can use the back side of the paper.
Since it’s made of paper, be careful not to get it wet when wearing it outdoors.
Bunny-ear headband made with chenille stems (craft wire)

With just chenille stems (pipe cleaners), you can easily make a headband! Take the pipe cleaner that will form the base, run it through your fingers to add a curve, and round off both ends so no wire sticks out.
Fold another pipe cleaner in half to make an ear, then simply wrap the extra length (the part that isn’t the ear) around the base.
Since you only need one material and hand strength, even children can safely enjoy making headbands.
Change the shape or color to make bunny or dog ears! They’re perfect for headbands to wear at kindergarten plays and other performances.
