Handmade Plush Toys with Everyday Items! A Collection of Ideas Perfect for Beginners (11–20)
Mordor

Fluffy, fuzzy, and cute! Here are some ideas for “moll dolls.” Moll dolls are palm-sized plush figures made by twisting soft pipe cleaners with wires inside.
They became popular in Korea and are now gaining attention in Japan too! All you need are fluffy pipe cleaners, eye and nose parts, and craft glue.
You can even find the materials at 100-yen shops, so it’s easy to give it a try.
Making them with kids sounds like a great way to spend time together.
Handkerchief plush toy

Here’s an idea for making a plush toy using a handkerchief.
You’ll need a handkerchief, tissues or stuffing, a small wire, and twist ties.
First, tie two spots with the twist ties to form the ears.
Use another tie to separate the face and body sections, and stuff them with tissues or cotton.
Finally, adjust the balance and tie off the arms and legs with twist ties to finish.
Wrap a ribbon around the neck to hide the ties.
By changing how you place the ties, you can create various designs like a rabbit, cat, or dog.
crocheted bear plushie

If you can crochet, I highly recommend trying amigurumi.
How about making a teddy bear out of yarn? Choose the yarn weight and hook size to match the size you want to make.
The size may vary slightly depending on your stitching, but aim for a round, cute face while following a pattern.
Make the parts for the face, body, arms and legs, and ears; stuff everything except the ears and sew them together.
Temporarily pin the ears and attach them while checking the balance.
Stitch the nose with a darker yarn, attach the eyes, and you’re done.
bear puppet

Make it with fleece! Here are some ideas for a bear hand puppet.
Fleece is a great fabric for beginners because it doesn’t fray easily even when the edges are cut, making it easy to sew.
It’s also a good idea to repurpose fleece you no longer wear.
Give it a try! Once your bear puppet is finished, use it to perform fingerplays, nursery rhymes, or folktales featuring bears—it’s sure to capture children’s interest.
It could also be fun to adapt the design to motifs other than a bear.
sock puppet

Make the most of socks! Here are ideas for sock puppets.
When you’re making puppets, it’s nice if they’re easy to put together, right? This time, let’s try making puppets using socks, which are easy to source and come in a wide range of colors.
What you’ll need: socks, stuffing, thick paper/cardstock, a pen, fabric double-sided tape or glue, felt, eye parts, scissors, and more.
Try creating sock puppets in your favorite motifs—like snakes, dogs, or bears—by customizing as you like!
You can make it without sewing! A small teddy bear

Let’s make a fluffy teddy bear with yarn! Since this method doesn’t require any sewing, kids can give it a try too.
Start by making the parts the same way you would make pom-poms.
Wrap yarn around your hand several times, and when it reaches the desired size, tie the center with another piece of yarn.
Cut through the looped sections, then trim with scissors to make them round.
For rounded areas like the face and ears, adjust by combining two pom-poms if needed.
Once the parts are ready, attach them with a hot glue gun.
Finally, neaten the overall shape and add the facial features to finish!

A floppy, cute sitting teddy bear

A seated teddy bear plushie made with faux fur has a charming combination of softness and a relaxed, floppy look.
You sew together fabric with fur and stuff it with cotton, and the way you stuff it affects how relaxed it looks in the end.
Make the parts for the face, body, arms, and legs, connect them while keeping natural transitions in mind, and attach the small parts to finish.
Pay close attention to details like the size of each part and the colors you use, and craft it with care.
