Masterpieces by male artists known for their captivating high notes. Recommended popular songs.

Even when we say “high-tone voice” or “the allure of high notes,” there are many types of singers: some have a naturally high-sounding speaking voice but don’t actually have a very wide upper range, while others don’t sound particularly high, yet when they sing, you realize they’re actually hitting incredibly high notes.

High tones in male voices in particular often carry a curious sensuality and tend to sound especially appealing to listeners.

This time, we’ve gathered classic songs by male singers whose high notes are especially captivating.

High-tone vocals may now feel like a prerequisite for professional singers, but the ways of expressing them vary greatly from singer to singer.

Enjoy this rich variety of high-tone voices.

It might also give you ideas for your karaoke repertoire if you’re good with high notes!

That said, don’t push yourself when singing high notes! Forcing your throat to squeeze out high notes can often damage your precious voice.

If you’re thinking of trying these songs yourself, be sure to take proper voice training first before you take on the challenge!

yellowback number

This is the 21st single by the Japanese rock band back number, released on September 29, 2021.

It was selected as the theme song for ABEMA’s original dating reality show “Koi to Ookami ni wa Damasarenai” (You Can’t Fool the Wolf with Love).

Rather than being a singer known for overwhelmingly ultra-high tones, back number’s vocalist Iyori Shimizu captivates with a gentle, approachable voice.

In this track as well, he effectively uses a singing tone rich in higher overtones and falsetto to deliver a soft vocal that perfectly matches the song’s mood.

It’s highly recommended for anyone who wants to listen to a tender-sounding male vocal track!

I don't want to let go.T-BOLAN

This was T-BOLAN’s second single, released in December 1991.

The composition is credited to “Masai Nishida,” but in reality it’s Masafumi “Marcy” Nishida, the vocalist of the Japanese hard rock band EARTHSHAKER.

Moritomo’s singing doesn’t give much of a high-tone impression, and just listening casually to the melody of this song, it might sound like it doesn’t use such a high range.

However, when you actually try singing it, you may be surprised to find that it employs quite a lot of unexpectedly high notes.

It’s a good example of a song that requires properly opening the throat and supporting the high notes with your core/abdominal muscles.

By the time of the Christmas carolsInagaki Junichi

This is Junichi Inagaki’s 27th single, released in October 1992.

It’s such a classic among J-pop Christmas songs that it hardly needs any explanation! I doubt there’s anyone who hasn’t heard it.

In fact, as of December 2023, it remains Inagaki’s biggest hit.

Of course, one reason for its massive success is the song itself—its incredibly appealing melody and lyrics that resonate with so many people.

But what truly defines its charm, above all, is Inagaki’s soft yet powerful high-tone voice.

Pay special attention to the chorus, where his high notes deliver a wide range of expressive nuances.

This is Official HIGE DANDism’s 13th digital-only single, released in December 2023.

It was reportedly produced as the theme song for the animated film SPY×FAMILY CODE: White, which premiered on December 22 of the same year.

Vocalist Satoshi Fujihara’s clear, resonant high tones are already well recognized, and the charm of his voice can be fully enjoyed in this track as well.

He skillfully shifts his vocal delivery and expression to match different sections, phrases, and words in the lyrics, resulting in a performance that never feels monotonous—truly wonderful.

Please enjoy it together with the thrilling tempo and arrangement of the backing track!

Rockdom ~ Blown by the WindTHE ALFEE

This is THE ALFEE’s 24th single, released in 1986.

At the live show where it was first unveiled, the band said it was a song they had “reached after 13 years,” indicating how deeply it resonates with them.

Looking back on the All-Campus Joint Struggle movement led by students in the mid-1960s, the song powerfully reiterates a wish not to forget that era, when hopeful young students questioned an unreasonable world and bravely took it on.

All three members have high-tone voices, and with Toshihiko Takamizawa on lead vocals here, the song’s range is quite high, making it anything but easy to sing.

To be honest, I didn’t know this band, so I did some research to write this article and listened to their music for the first time—and wow, what a distinctive and fascinating band… or rather, songs! The vocals, sung entirely in falsetto, are especially striking.

In the recordings, beyond the falsetto itself, it also sounds like they’re actively using some corrective effects to process the voice, but a vocal performance that commits so thoroughly to falsetto can only be described as impressive.

It’s surprisingly hard to pull off, so if any guys out there are confident in their high range, definitely give it a try at karaoke!

Matsuzaki’s otherworldly singing voice is still going strong, and I don’t think anyone among artists of his generation can match his soulful tone and vocal power.

His songs are loved across generations and are often covered on TV and elsewhere, but no matter which cover you listen to, I don’t think any surpass the quality of the original.
