Masterpieces by male artists known for their captivating high notes. Recommended popular songs.

Even when we say “high-tone voice” or “the allure of high notes,” there are many types of singers: some have a naturally high-sounding speaking voice but don’t actually have a very wide upper range, while others don’t sound particularly high, yet when they sing, you realize they’re actually hitting incredibly high notes.

High tones in male voices in particular often carry a curious sensuality and tend to sound especially appealing to listeners.

This time, we’ve gathered classic songs by male singers whose high notes are especially captivating.

High-tone vocals may now feel like a prerequisite for professional singers, but the ways of expressing them vary greatly from singer to singer.

Enjoy this rich variety of high-tone voices.

It might also give you ideas for your karaoke repertoire if you’re good with high notes!

That said, don’t push yourself when singing high notes! Forcing your throat to squeeze out high notes can often damage your precious voice.

If you’re thinking of trying these songs yourself, be sure to take proper voice training first before you take on the challenge!

THE DAYPorunogurafiti

PornoGraffitti “THE DAY” Music Video (Anime “My Hero Academia” Season 1 Cour 1 OP Theme)
THE DAYPorunogurafiti

PornoGraffitti is famous for their high vocal range, and I think “THE DAY” is one of their highest songs, especially at the top end.

The tempo is quite fast too, so if you’re going to sing it, it’ll be tough to keep up unless you really memorize the song first.

Also, vocalist Okano mostly uses chest voice and belts the high notes in his natural voice, but the highest note at the end of the chorus, C#5, is in falsetto.

That switch is so cool, isn’t it? Since the song is up-tempo, if you’re not comfortable with high notes, I recommend lowering the key by one or two steps instead of starting in the original key.

Rather than focusing on pitch at first, start by getting used to the speed! You might get caught up in just getting the notes out, but don’t forget to breathe!

Supreme loveTHE ALFEE

A track included on THE ALFEE’s album “THE BEST SONGS,” released in December 1985.

Featuring Toshihiko Takamizawa—arguably the original high-tenor voice of J-POP/J-ROCK—on lead vocals, it’s arranged as a dramatic power ballad.

As mentioned, this is an album track that has never been released as a single, but I wanted to introduce it to all fans of high-tenor vocals.

Being an ’80s piece, the vocal track is appealing in its own way for being very organic, without the heavy pitch correction common in modern songs.

Please enjoy Takamizawa’s soaring high notes and a song that evokes a clear, wintry night sky!

#302Hirai Ken

When it comes to beautiful high tones, many people probably think of Ken Hirai.

With his one-and-only voice, he has created numerous masterpieces such as “Rakuen” and “even if.” “#302” is a single released on December 4, 2019, and it was used as the theme song for the TBS drama “4-Minute Marigold.” If you master a gentle falsetto like Hirai’s and sing this song beautifully, there’s no doubt listeners will be spellbound!

Hani HaniEndō Masaaki

Hani HaniEndō Masaaki

Anison singer Masaaki Endoh—also well-known as a member of JAM Project.

In the anime song world, he’s renowned for his exceptional high notes.

His mixed voice is especially remarkable: while most singers’ mixed voice tends to sound thin, Endoh’s retains impressive thickness.

The song “Honey Honey” lets you savor his soaring highs, and the parts outside the high register are delivered with overwhelming vocal skill as well.

Be sure to give it a listen.

AkariGReeeeN

GReeeeN / Akari [Theme song for TBS Sunday drama 'TOKYO MER: Mobile Emergency Room']
AkariGReeeeN

This is GreeeeN’s 35th single, released on September 8, 2021.

It was also selected as the theme song for TBS’s Sunday drama “TOKYO MER: Mobile Emergency Room.” The piercing high tones you can hear in the middle section—the so-called D-melody—are incredibly refreshing.

The contrast between the melodically sung high-tone parts and the sections delivered with a slightly rap-like touch is exquisite, lending the song a dramatic flair.

Do whatever the hell you want.sawada kenji

This is “Katte ni Shiyagare,” a signature song by Kenji Sawada, the superstar who captivated the Japanese public.

Its stylish, passionate sound is perfectly matched by Julie—Kenji Sawada’s—sensual vocal delivery, making it a track that sets your heart ablaze.

The lyrics by the eminent songwriter Yū Aku are outstanding, with such vivid depictions that they make you feel as if you’re watching a film.

MAKAFUKARADWIMPS

RADWIMPS – MAKAFUKA [Official Music Video]
MAKAFUKARADWIMPS

A RADWIMPS song released in November 2021.

RADWIMPS’s singer, Yojiro Noda, is known for his very gentle, boyish, and translucent voice—one of his biggest charms.

That wonderful voice shines in the song we’re introducing today, MAKAFUKA! Within its ballad-like structure—lushly arranged with a symphonic, luxurious touch—his vocals are showcased to the fullest.

The contrast between the grand, orchestral backdrop and Noda’s simple, down-to-earth singing makes this track especially captivating.

Personally, I also found the contrast fascinating between the heavily pitch-processed, mechanical vocals at the very beginning and the organic vocals once the song truly starts.

If you’re into DTM (desktop music production) and the like, it might be fun to listen from that ‘sound design’ perspective as well!
