Masterpieces by male artists known for their captivating high notes. Recommended popular songs.

Even when we say “high-tone voice” or “the allure of high notes,” there are many types of singers: some have a naturally high-sounding speaking voice but don’t actually have a very wide upper range, while others don’t sound particularly high, yet when they sing, you realize they’re actually hitting incredibly high notes.

High tones in male voices in particular often carry a curious sensuality and tend to sound especially appealing to listeners.

This time, we’ve gathered classic songs by male singers whose high notes are especially captivating.

High-tone vocals may now feel like a prerequisite for professional singers, but the ways of expressing them vary greatly from singer to singer.

Enjoy this rich variety of high-tone voices.

It might also give you ideas for your karaoke repertoire if you’re good with high notes!

That said, don’t push yourself when singing high notes! Forcing your throat to squeeze out high notes can often damage your precious voice.

If you’re thinking of trying these songs yourself, be sure to take proper voice training first before you take on the challenge!

When the magic wears offSaucy Dog

A track from Saucy Dog’s fifth mini-album, “But Really,” which was released in July 2023.

The band’s vocalist, Shinya Ishihara, has a beautifully clear, high voice with a touch of boyishness.

Paired with the song’s relaxed, mid-tempo feel, it creates a piece that simply makes you feel very gentle just by listening.

He switches deftly between chest voice, mixed voice, and falsetto depending on the part and expression, making this an ideal reference and practice piece for anyone looking to master singing in the higher range.

IllusionNOVELA

This song opens NOVELA’s debut album, Mukokugeki (Enchanted Theater), by the Japanese progressive hard rock band; the album was released in March 1980.

I first heard it when I was in my first year of junior high school, and above all, I was stunned by the unique high tone of vocalist Hisakatsu “Angie” Igarashi.

His voice is truly distinctive—neither quite falsetto nor exactly mixed voice—so listeners tend to be sharply divided in their preferences.

But if you like male high-tone vocals and haven’t experienced this one yet, I highly recommend it! In fact, about 25 years after the album’s release, I produced Angie’s solo album and contributed songs.

For that reason as well, this track holds a very special place in my heart.

Azure BarrageŌishi Masayoshi

A digital distribution-only single by Masayoshi Oishi, whose high-tone voice leaves a powerful impression.

It was written as the 5th anniversary song for the smartphone app Azur Lane.

“Life will burn out and vanish in the end anyway, so let’s shake off impatience and anxiety and charge forward in style!” It’s a refreshing track that sweeps away the feeling of getting bogged down by small things right in front of you and becoming reluctant to move forward.

That said, many people might feel like giving up when it comes to singing it, especially from the very beginning.

Start by matching the key to your own range and practice from pitches that aren’t a strain.

Melody8LOOM

Melody8LOOM

It’s the third single by 8LOOM, the in-show boy group from the TV drama “Kimi no Hana ni Naru,” and it was released to the public in November 2022 as a digital-only single.

As a song, it’s a classic pop track that really suits youthful-sounding vocals, and the vocal melody is very easy to sing.

I think it’s an excellent karaoke recommendation for men with higher voices.

It might be even more fun if you try imitating the slightly Vocaloid-style processed part at the beginning of the track when you sing it.

I miss youRADWIMPS

Yojiro Noda, who serves as vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist for RADWIMPS and also writes lyrics and composes, has a signature style: even though his songs aren’t pitched very high, his clear voice gives them a soaring sense of elation.

Released on March 11, 2021—ten years after the Great East Japan Earthquake—Aitai is imbued with Noda’s heartfelt sentiments.

When the key modulates upward at the end, his transparent voice shines even more.

It’s a masterpiece that fully showcases Noda’s appeal!

RADWIMPS – Playing Human [Official Music Video]

The title, the contemporary dance in the music video, and the otherworldly sound—all of it together creates a mysterious atmosphere in this RADWIMPS track.

It was chosen as the theme song for the drama Ishiko to Haneo: Sonna Koto de Uttaemasu? set in a law firm.

Is getting by safely while turning a blind eye to dreams, hopes, and expectations what it means to live? The lyrics question a world that praises suppressing oneself, prompting deeper reflection.

I’d like to use techniques that move between falsetto and chest voice to capture this worldview effectively.

Ragio MagicEARTHSHAKER

This is a song called “Radio Magic” by EARTH SHAKER, a loud rock band from Osaka.

Its punkish yet melodic sound and slightly husky vocals really tug at the heartstrings.

It’s sweet and a little bittersweet.

Even people who didn’t hear this song in real time might find parts they can relate to.

It’s included on the album “Midnight Flight.”
