Masterpieces by male artists known for their captivating high notes. Recommended popular songs.

Even when we say “high-tone voice” or “the allure of high notes,” there are many types of singers: some have a naturally high-sounding speaking voice but don’t actually have a very wide upper range, while others don’t sound particularly high, yet when they sing, you realize they’re actually hitting incredibly high notes.

High tones in male voices in particular often carry a curious sensuality and tend to sound especially appealing to listeners.

This time, we’ve gathered classic songs by male singers whose high notes are especially captivating.

High-tone vocals may now feel like a prerequisite for professional singers, but the ways of expressing them vary greatly from singer to singer.

Enjoy this rich variety of high-tone voices.

It might also give you ideas for your karaoke repertoire if you’re good with high notes!

That said, don’t push yourself when singing high notes! Forcing your throat to squeeze out high notes can often damage your precious voice.

If you’re thinking of trying these songs yourself, be sure to take proper voice training first before you take on the challenge!

Gesu no Kiwami Otome. – Give Me a Savage Kiss
Give me a freakish kissGesu no Kiwami Otome.

This was Gesu no Kiwami Otome’s major-label debut single, released on August 6, 2014.

I personally found it very interesting that, contrary to the band’s name and the song title, the track itself is crafted as a very orthodox pop song.

The band’s vocalist, Enon Kawatani, is also a captivating singer with a voice rich in higher overtones.

While it’s not exactly an overwhelmingly high-toned voice, his boyish, unadorned singing blends nicely with the song, making it, in my view, an excellent piece.

An unfinished love song I've been working on foreverHata Motohiro

In harmony with the world of the film “Love Letters on Our 35th Year,” Motohiro Hata delicately captures warm, nuanced emotions.

This work weaves together the love of a long-married couple and feelings that deepen day by day with a gentle yet powerful melody, beautifully expressing a form of love that grows more vibrant with time.

It will be released and made available for streaming between February and March 2025.

The limited first edition includes jacket cards featuring visuals from the film, handwritten lyric cards, and a Blu-ray containing live performance footage.

It is a song that will resonate deeply with those who hold feelings for someone dear or who struggle to put their emotions into words.

King Gnu are cool no matter what you focus on—songs, visuals, vocals, or anything surrounding them.

Every member boasts a monster-level background as a Tokyo University of the Arts graduate.

Vocally, when “Hakujitsu” was released, vocalist Iguchi’s delicate falsetto became a hot topic.

In “Senryo Yakusha,” which I’m introducing here, you can hear not only Iguchi but also guitarist-vocalist Tsuneta’s powerful singing! He hits higher notes than in many of their other tracks, so if your natural speaking voice is low, you might find Tsuneta’s singing approach a helpful reference.

umbrellaSEKAI NO OWARI

SEKAI NO OWARI’s 13th major-label single, released in June 2020.

It was chosen as the theme song for the drama “The Way of the Dragon: The Avenger with Two Faces,” starring Hiroshi Tamaki.

The lyrics move forward by likening the singer to an umbrella that protects you.

An umbrella that can only protect you on rainy days comes to hate the dazzling sun and wishes for it to keep raining forever—a painfully poignant portrait of unrequited love.

Vocalist Fukase’s fragile, vanishing delivery heightens the sense of melancholy.

Make full use of falsetto to sing it delicately.

Dried Flowerimase

Singer-songwriter imase, known for his stylish musicality, has been gaining popularity.

While he’s known for featuring many high notes, the appeal of his falsetto lies in a tone reminiscent of the disco music of the 1970s.

The song “Dried Flower” is a classic that lets you fully enjoy his captivating high register.

If you want to practice a falsetto style similar to what you hear in Black music, use the high parts of this track as your model.
