[January Childcare] Rabbit-Themed Wall Display Ideas

Rabbits often appear in picture books and songs, making them one of the animals most familiar to children.

They’re also frequently used as motifs in crafts.

So for teachers who are looking for January wall display ideas, how about creating a wall display that features rabbit motifs?

If you combine them with New Year–themed items like snow bunnies, fukuwarai, or daruma, children can also learn about New Year’s traditions.

We’re also sharing ideas you can make together with the children, so please use them as inspiration for your wall displays.

Because the children’s creations are treated as “artworks,” we use the term “seisaku (制作)” in the text.

Snow rabbit made of cotton

[Easy Craft] [100-Yen DIY] Winter Wall Decoration: Snow Bunnies [Winter Craft] #100yen #Daiso #DIY #handmade #kawaii #recreation #craft #seniors #dayservice
Snow rabbit made of cotton

A white rabbit cheerfully hopping around in the snow.

Some wild rabbits even change their fur from brown to white in winter.

Let’s make a white “snow rabbit” inspired by them.

By using cotton for the rabbit’s body, you can express the fluffy look of snow.

Kids will enjoy the step of sticking cotton onto a glue-coated backing sheet.

Add ears and eyes to the cotton rabbit, attach it to the backing sheet, and it’s done.

You could also add a ribbon, stickers, or a message.

Feel free to customize it and have fun making your own.

Hanging rabbit ornament

Let’s fill an entire wall with cute hanging rabbit decorations! First, make three holes in the bottom of a paper cup.

Making holes can be a bit dangerous, so teachers should handle this step.

Insert pipe cleaners shaped into ear-like loops into two of the three holes for the rabbit’s ears.

On the side of the paper cup, stick on googly-eye stickers and two pom-poms to create the fluffy area around the rabbit’s mouth.

Separately, use pipe cleaners to make decorations that evoke New Year’s or winter.

Combine these with the rabbits and connect them with string—and you’re done! Try changing the colors of the ears and pom-poms, or adjusting the placement of the added decorations to create variety.

Ozoni with rabbit-shaped rice cakes

How about a ozoni (New Year’s soup) decoration as a perfect wall display for the New Year? If you make the mochi in the ozoni shaped like rabbits, you’ll get an adorable ozoni! Cut out from construction paper the rabbit-shaped mochi, shiitake mushrooms, carrots, and any other ingredients you want to include in the ozoni, as well as the bowl shape.

For the rabbit-shaped mochi, it’s best to make them look slightly puffed up, as if the mochi has swelled.

Depending on the children’s ages, it may be better for the teacher to prepare these parts in advance.

Just glue each piece into the bowl as if you’re adding the ingredients—done! For a pattern on the bowl, we also recommend sticking on small torn pieces of origami paper.

Fluffy snow bunny

This is a fluffy wall art project to make snow bunnies using shaving foam and liquid laundry starch.

You can create pieces with a soft feel, just like real snow bunnies.

First, put shaving foam and liquid starch into a container and mix until stiff peaks form.

Spread the mixture onto a backing sheet and shape it into a snow bunny.

Once you’ve formed the snow bunny, let it dry, then decorate the backing with stamps or crayons and add the facial features to finish.

Kids are sure to get excited about this fun way to make snow bunnies.

Bunny mochi made with dabbing a stamp (pon-pon)

This is a wall decoration featuring rabbits made with tampo stamping, where you can enjoy different color effects.

Make a tampo by stuffing gauze or kitchen paper with cotton or fabric and tying it off with a rubber band.

Dip the tampo in paint and dab it onto construction paper.

The way the color appears will change depending on the materials used for the tampo.

Use a rabbit-shaped cutout as a stencil: place it on the background paper and apply color around it with the tampo.

When you remove the stencil, a rabbit-shaped rice cake silhouette will appear on the background.

Kids will enjoy the process since the color goes on with a fun stamping motion.

This is great not only as a wall decoration but also as an idea for New Year’s cards.

Bunny stamp made from a toilet paper roll

Here’s a wall display idea made with cute bunny stamps.

For the stamps, use toilet paper rolls.

Use a round toilet paper roll as-is for the bunny’s face.

The key point is to use a flattened, oval-shaped toilet paper roll for the ears.

Stamp the eyes and nose with a cotton swab, and add a sticker for the mouth.

Mount the pieces on a backing sheet to create a perfect craft for January and the New Year.

You can also add more paint colors for the stamps or hand-draw the facial features for extra cuteness.

It’s a wall art activity that will showcase children’s unique personalities.

Paper plate rabbit made with fallen leaves

https://www.tiktok.com/@hoiku.labo/video/7431378368727174407

When the weather turns cold, lots of leaves fall from the trees in schoolyards and parks, don’t they? Why not use those fallen leaves to make a cute paper-plate rabbit? For the rabbit’s ears, of course, use the leaves.

After attaching the leaf ears to the paper plate, draw the facial features to finish.

You can also make the face using stickers, origami paper, or construction paper for a lovely result.

You can use the paper plate as a circle as is, or cut it into a rabbit shape—your ideas can lead to all kinds of fun creations.

You can even collect the leaves while taking a walk with the children.
