Although they’re a melodic hardcore band, this song stands out for its beautiful chord progression.

It’s a 2013 track by the melodic hardcore band dustbox, who have been energizing various festivals since their 1999 debut.

The song’s development and detailed craftsmanship are outstanding, expressing delicate emotions within its fast-paced tempo.

Beautifulkegawa no marīzu

Though they disbanded to much regret, The MINKS (Kegawa no Maries) were an emblem of Japanese punk.

One of their most popular signature songs is Beautiful.

With phrasing reminiscent of the Sex Pistols, it influenced many later bands.

The music video is distinctive and leaves a strong impression, too.

A summer afternooneastern youth

It’s a straightforward, powerful track—and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call it one of eastern youth’s signature songs.

Released in June 1998, it paints scenes of summer while singing about the inner turmoil of confronting one’s sense of guilt.

The seasonal imagery—like the chorus of cicadas and sudden showers—is striking.

The piercing guitar sound in the chorus feels as if it’s pushing the protagonist’s resolve forward.

When you’re in the mood to face yourself, it’s sure to resonate.

It might be nice to listen to it alone on a summer evening.

BABY BABYichou BOYZ

Ging Nang BOYZ – BABY BABY
BABY BABYichou BOYZ

A quintessential youth-punk band.

This is a track they provided for DJ Yatsui Ichirou’s “DJ Yatsui Ichirou 1.” The setting is within a dream, where the singer is communicating with someone they love.

It’s punk, but pure emotions are bursting forth.

The wistful melody line beautifully captures the fragility of the dream world.

If someone you love actually appeared in your dreams, this is probably how it would feel.

SiM became hugely popular as a band that blends reggae and punk, incorporating elements of reggae-punk.

Their signature song, “KiLLiNG ME,” is a track packed with their appeal.

It features heavy sounds infused with sped-up reggae rhythms, creating an even more rhythmic feel.

It’s also a fan favorite at festivals, so be sure to check it out.

Tally-hoZa Kuromaniyonzu

The debut single by The Cro-Magnons.

Hiroto Kōmoto released it in 2006 on his label.

I wondered what “Tally-ho” means, but it’s a military term for “target acquired.” Masatoshi Mashima wasn’t involved in writing or composing this song—Kōmoto handled both.

Some entity called “Tally-ho” sails across the sea, aiming for something.

Don’t eat!INU

While hardcore, Mesi Kuuna! carries a distinctive philosophical bent and is known as an unfading classic in the Japanese punk scene.

INU’s razor-sharp guitar sound and defiant, rebellious vocals have a direct, powerful appeal to listeners.

The lyrics, marked by freedom of expression and individuality, leave a deep impact, while the uniquely repeating melodic lines linger in the ear.

It epitomizes punk’s culture-transcending influence and the reasons it’s loved by music fans across genres.

Evoking the essence of punk yet tinged with a certain nostalgia, its sound is well worth revisiting.
