Paper cup fireworks

Fireworks made with paper cups are a classic summer craft that even older adults can easily enjoy.
Cut several vertical slits along the sides of the cup, then gently flare them outward to create the look of a bursting firework.
Draw patterns on the bottom of the cup with colored pencils or crayons to make your own original firework design.
You can glue the finished “fireworks” onto black construction paper to represent them exploding against the night sky.
By adjusting the angles of the slits and the color combinations, you can create a variety of firework styles, which expands the creative possibilities.
The hands-on process of planning colors and shapes helps stimulate the brain, and once completed, the pieces can also be enjoyed as seasonal wall decorations.
It’s a recommended activity that lets you easily experience a summertime tradition indoors.
An Aquarium Made from Plastic Bottle Crafts

Here’s a perfect summer-at-home craft: an aquarium made from a plastic bottle.
The gently swaying fish are sure to soothe you, so give it a try! First, cut the plastic bottle below the halfway point, then press the cut edge against a hot iron to round it off.
Use an awl to make two holes in the bottle cap.
Next, draw your favorite fish on shrink plastic, punch a hole at the top, and bake it in a toaster to shrink it.
Then thread twine through the fish, and also through the bottle and cap, and secure it in place.
For the finishing touches, decorate a cardboard base with small stones and pipe cleaners to create a seascape, then place the bottle over it and glue it down—that’s it! It brings a refreshing vibe to hot summer days, and it’s also great as room decor.
Goldfish Herbarium

We also recommend a cool-looking goldfish herbarium that helps ease the summer heat.
A herbarium is an item made by filling a glass container with a special oil and placing plants inside.
Many people have probably seen the type with flowers in a tall, narrow bottle.
This time, the idea is to treat the oil as if it were water, put aquatic plants in the bottle, and add goldfish stickers.
It’s fun to mull over which goldfish to use, too.
potted morning glory

Here’s an introduction to making a realistic potted morning glory using origami and craft wire.
The finished piece can be displayed in a facility or in a senior’s room! When seniors see a piece they worked hard on displayed in their room, they may grow more attached to the facility.
Through this morning glory craft, we hope they’ll feel lively and positive each day.
Of course, gifting the finished piece is wonderful as well.
There are a few fine details involved, but with staff support, please have fun making it together.
SUMMER Garland

This SUMMER garland will instantly brighten up any room with a lively vibe! It’s also great as a wall decoration at home or in senior care facilities, so give it a try.
First, attach a half-cut piece of brown origami paper to the center of a yellow-toned sheet.
Make two identical pieces, accordion-fold each one, and connect them.
While folded, round off both ends with scissors, tie a string at the center, open it into a circle, and secure the two seams with clips or glue—and you’re done! You can also have fun customizing it by adding not only sunflower blooms but also leaves and other summery motifs.
Origami Hanging Ornament: “Goldfish Swaying in the Breeze”

When we think of summer in Japan, Tanabata and summer festivals are essential events, and goldfish are a motif that evokes those summertime occasions.
Let’s make a hanging decoration that sways gently in the breeze, inspired by the way goldfish swim through water.
By arranging the goldfish within a circle, it also conveys the image of a fishbowl.
If you incorporate a strong red to vividly decorate the goldfish, and craft the surrounding areas mainly with refreshing colors like blue, the goldfish will stand out even more.

Watermelon fan

Here’s how to make a watermelon fan using popsicle sticks.
Gather popsicle sticks, wire, colored construction paper, and glue.
Prepare five popsicle sticks and drill a hole at the bottom of each stick.
Thread the wire through the holes to bind them together.
Cut the construction paper into a fan-shaped watermelon slice, and use colored paper to create the rind and seeds to form the watermelon design.
Open and close the fan as you assemble it so the shape and movement work smoothly, then finish it up.
Add your name or decorations to create your own original fan.
