watermelon

When it comes to summer fruits, watermelon is the classic choice.
Let’s make an origami watermelon using red and green origami paper.
First, crease the red paper along the diagonal.
With the red side facing down, fold the corners toward the center along the crease.
Once it forms a square, fold all four corners inward.
Do the same diagonal creasing with the green paper, then glue the red piece onto the green side so they align.
Finally, trim and tidy the edges of the green paper, fold the glued piece in half with the glued side facing up, and draw seeds with a black marker.
Your origami watermelon is complete!
dragonfly

This is an origami dragonfly that you often see flying from summer into autumn.
It’s made by combining two sheets of origami paper.
Let’s start with the body.
First, crease a cross and fold the corners toward the center.
Next, fold only two opposite corners toward the center in the other direction.
Flip it over and make opening folds, then fold both ends toward the center.
Neaten the edges to complete the body.
Now for the wings.
The steps are the same as the body up to a point, but the finishing is slightly different.
After flipping it over and making the opening folds, fold the edges—not the corner tips—toward the center.
Shape the ends to look like wings, attach them to the body, and taper the form toward the tail.
Cut out white or black paper for the eyes and attach them to finish!
crab

Let’s try making a crab using origami.
With the colored side facing up, crease the paper in a cross.
Then flip it over and make diagonal creases on the back side.
Open it up once and refold along the creases.
With a corner pointing downward, fold just one layer diagonally downward to form a leg section.
Next, fold the edge in by about 1 cm, then fold the corner diagonally upward to make the claws.
Finally, draw the eyes with a marker or add stickers, and your crab is complete.
Try it with origami paper in different colors!
In conclusion
We introduced some recommended origami for July. Did you find something you’d like to make? When the teacher demonstrates how to fold, it goes more smoothly if you use larger origami paper so it’s easier for the children to see. After folding, try expanding the activity by drawing pictures or adding stickers—this helps children experience the fun of creating their own works! We also recommend setting up an origami corner in the room so kids can easily give origami a try. Have fun making all sorts of creations together and enjoy origami!
