Have your child draw ornaments on the card using their own ideas.

This way, you can enjoy working on it together.

So many surprises! A Christmas card

When it comes to the charm of Christmas cards, isn’t it all about the delightful surprises? Simply receiving one is wonderful, of course, but a card with a gimmick feels extra special.

Usually, there’s one interactive feature per card, but there’s also the approach of packing in several.

For example, you can add sections inside the card that open further, or a pull tab that reveals a different design—try incorporating thoughtful mechanisms like these.

As a tip, start with a larger base Christmas card to make it easier.

Christmas cards are often made only of paper.

By adding decorations with yarn and beads, you can create a more original card.

If you use yarn, it’s recommended to punch holes and thread the yarn through them rather than gluing it on.

There’s also a technique where you thread beads onto the yarn you’ve passed through.

This results in a design that conveys a handmade warmth, so giving it to someone special is sure to delight them.

However, because the punched holes can make the paper more prone to tearing, don’t forget to reinforce it with tape or take other precautions.

Pop-up gift card

Many people like to include a Christmas card with their gift.

In that case, smaller cards tend to fit better.

A pop-up gift card is perfect for such situations.

When opened, a gift-shaped object pops up.

Most pop-up mechanisms use cuts, which inevitably makes them larger.

However, this one creates the popping element by applying masking tape.

As a result, you can make it in any small size you like.

You’ve probably seen a Christmas cake pull-tab card somewhere before—the kind where pulling the tab makes the top part of the cake extend.

Since you can’t read the message unless you pull it out, it adds a little element of surprise.

You can use the same mechanism and change the design to make an extending Christmas tree or a present box.

There are plenty of ways to customize it, like putting a photo on the extended part instead of a message.

Talking with your child about what kind of customizations to add can also make for a fun memory.

Christmas wreath card

This is a Christmas card with a Christmas wreath motif.

How you represent the ring of the wreath is important.

It might be easy to understand if you make the main area for writing your message in a circular shape, then surround it with small circles.

By layering rings with circles of various colors and sizes, you can create a sense of depth and cuteness.

After that, just add small decorations like a real wreath or draw some designs, and the card is complete.

If you layer paper to make it thicker or mount it on a backing sheet, it will be sturdier and easier to give as a gift.

A Christmas card with Santa coming out of a tree

[Handmade Album] A mechanism where Santa pops out from inside the tree!
A Christmas card with Santa coming out of a tree

It’s an adorable pop-up card that combines a Christmas tree and Santa.

When you open the outer doors shaped like a tree, Santa’s face appears inside, and then Santa’s face opens up further so you can write a message inside.

The process has a few steps, but you’ll make it in two parts: the outer tree piece and the inner Santa piece.

For the outer piece, score it into five sections, trim both ends into a tree shape, then attach a tree-shaped cutout of paper in a different color and a ribbon to finish.

For the Santa piece, score it into four sections, and trim one end into the shape of Santa’s beard.

Then attach Santa’s face and hat, plus the belt around his waist, to complete it.

Finally, glue the outer piece and the Santa piece together and you’re done.

If you prepare the cutting steps in advance—like the tree parts and Santa’s beard—this is a craft even small children can enjoy making!
