A memo stand that’s perfect for leaving little messages.

It’s just right as a handmade gift.

Gather a muffin cup, air-dry clay, a long paper clip, and some beads.

The key is to roll the clay and pack it into the muffin cup so there are no gaps.

Insert the long paper clip with the non-clamping end going into the clay.

Decorate with beads or ribbon, and you’re done! Once the clay has fully dried, painting it with acrylics is also recommended.

A photo frame made with pipe cleaners has a warm feel and makes the perfect gift.

Prepare some pipe cleaners and a clear file.

Twist and form three pipe cleaners into a bear shape, making loops as you go.

Adjust the amount of pipe cleaners, adding more if needed.

If you also adjust the volume of the bear’s ears as you make them, the balance will be more even.

Trace a bear face shape onto the clear file, then attach it at the spot where the photo will go using double-sided tape.

Once you tidy up the overall shape with the pipe cleaners, it’s done! Turning it into a keychain is recommended—you can carry it with you anywhere.

Accordion album

Accordion album

To help them look back on their memories, it can be nice to give an album at the graduation ceremony.

While a book-style album is lovely, why not try making an accordion album that’s easy to unfold? Wrap pieces of thick cardboard with fabric, attach them to a sheet of drawing paper folded in a zigzag (accordion) pattern, and then paste photos onto each piece of cardboard to complete the accordion album.

Choosing which fabric to use and how to add decorations besides fabric offers a wide range of creative variations, which is part of the fun.

A bouquet made with handprints

Why not try making a card shaped like a bouquet using handprints? By including handprints—something truly one-of-a-kind—it can become a very special keepsake.

First, paint your hands with poster paint and press your right and left hands onto construction paper as if they were the wrapping paper of a bouquet.

Then, paste many flower-shaped cutouts in the space between the two handprints.

Besides flowers, you can also add things like portraits, ladybugs, or musical notes in major key; decorating with various elements will make a cute, memorable card.

Give it a try!

How about making a keychain with shrink plastic? It’s easy: draw a picture on the shrink plastic, round off the corners, and bake it in a toaster oven.

A couple of tips: since shrink plastic shrinks when heated, draw your picture larger than you want the final size to be, and as soon as it’s done baking, place a weight on it to flatten it.

It will be hot when you take it out of the toaster oven, so use tools like chopsticks to avoid burns.

Let’s celebrate the kindergarten graduation by gifting a keychain decorated with your own original drawings or lettering!

Message Card

Easy and cute message cards you can make with 100-yen shop items
Message Card

If you want to put your feelings into words and give them as a gift, how about presenting a message card? You can find plenty of ready-made message cards in stores, but if it’s a gift, I recommend making one by hand.

With colored cardstock, stickers, and craft punches from a 100-yen shop, you can easily create a cute card—so give it a try.

Even children can make them, so why not have them create one as a present for a close friend?

How to make a message card to create and give to someone special
A card with potted flowers that pop out

Deliver your feelings in words! Let’s handmake a message card.

This idea uses only construction paper and features a pop-up potted flower.

The flowerpot is given a three-dimensional effect by adding straight and curved cuts along the fold of a sheet of construction paper folded in half.

For the flower, cut a circle from construction paper, fold it in half twice, then make mountain folds outward on the side opposite the creases.

Next, round off the corners to form the flower shape.

Attach the flower above the pot, and it’s complete.
