Simple Crafts for Beginners (1–10)
Felt magnet

At first glance, it looks like a cute felt mascot…
but actually, it has a magnet inside so it sticks firmly to a fridge or other metal surfaces! Many households use magnets on the fridge to hold important papers.
Let’s make a felt mascot that’s practical too! It’s very easy: cut felt into your favorite shapes or characters, place two pieces together (front and back) and sew around the edges, glue a magnet inside, stuff it with cotton, then sew up the remaining opening—and you’re done! Try making lots with your favorite characters!
tissue case

This is a tissue case for pocket tissues that you can make even without a sewing machine, using only simple straight stitches.
Fold the edge that will be the case opening into a triple fold and sew a running stitch.
You don’t need to take out the iron—just fold it with your fingers and press a firm crease with your nail.
Once both ends are sewn, turn the fabric right sides together and sew the two ends, and your tissue case is complete! Bringing tissues to school is more fun when the tissue case is cute and one of your favorites—it really lifts your mood.
Hairband (finger knitting)

There are probably many people who feel that knitting is a bit of a high hurdle.
It can be especially tricky for kids’ crafts, depending on what you’re making.
In that case, why not try finger knitting to make a headband? As the name suggests, finger knitting uses no needles at all—you knit using only your fingers.
Prepare slightly thicker yarn, loop it back and forth around your fingers, and hook the strands alternately; before you know it, you’ll have a tube.
Connect the two ends of the tube, and you’ve got an easy headband! Once you learn the technique, you can make all kinds of things.

friendship bracelet

Wasn’t there a “friendship bracelet boom” in every generation? You use embroidery floss to braid them, and with this cardboard template method, even small children or people who aren’t good at crafts can make them easily! Cut a circle out of cardboard, punch a hole in the center, thread the embroidery floss through the hole, and place each strand into a slit around the edge.
Starting from the open gap, count three threads and move the third thread into the open slot; repeat moving the third thread into the new gap.
As you continue, the braided bracelet will grow longer through the hole in the center.
Embroidery floss is sold even at 100-yen shops, so you can get started right away.
Candy Magnet

Let me show you how to make candy-shaped magnets that will add a nice accent when attached to a refrigerator or whiteboard.
All you need are fabric scraps, plastic bottle caps, and strong magnets you can buy at a 100-yen shop.
First, glue the strong magnet to the inside of the bottle cap.
Cut the fabric scraps into rectangles, fold the edges, and glue them down.
Wrap the bottle cap with the fabric, then gather the fabric at both ends with thread to finish.
Using different fabrics makes them colorful and cute.
flower ribbon ornament

Prepare your favorite ribbon and cut 50 pieces, each 4 cm long.
An easy way is to wrap the ribbon around a strip of paper folded to 4 cm, then cut along the edge to make many at once.
Thread a needle and knot the end, then pass the needle through each ribbon piece folded into a teardrop shape with the ends overlapped.
Once they’re all on, push the ribbon pieces tightly toward the knot and tie off.
Shape the ribbon pieces into a hemisphere.
Thread a strap cord through a bead to use as an accent, then glue on the ribbon hemisphere you just made to finish.
Try different ribbons and beads to create your own cute decorations.
Walnut snap hair clip

Here’s how to make covered snap hair clips that you can create even with small fabric scraps.
Since they’re handmade, you can match the clips to your clothes and style—so convenient! You’ll need snap hair clips, thin fabric scraps, felt, batting, and more.
Using no-iron adhesive sheets is recommended because they save effort and give a neat finish.
Place batting on a piece of fabric cut about 1 cm larger than the clip, stitch around the outside, pull to gather, and close it up.
From the back, whipstitch a piece of felt cut to the same size as the clip, and you’re done.
