Cherry tree made with construction paper
As a fun idea for coloring and drawing, making a “cherry blossom tree out of drawing paper” is also recommended.
First, prepare a sheet of drawing paper, roll it up, and tape it in place.
Next, cut it into the shape of a cherry blossom tree as it is.
Then, draw the petals freely and you’re done.
Try approaching it with a free, creative mindset.
You can stand the finished cherry blossom tree upright as a decoration.
You could even gather everyone’s creations to make a row of cherry blossom trees.
Have fun thinking about how to display them, too.
Three-dimensional cherry blossom tree made with tissue paper

The key is that irresistibly fluffy texture that makes you want to touch it! This is a three-dimensional cherry blossom tree made with tissue paper.
Prepare tissue paper, a backing sheet, and a tree trunk piece made from construction paper, then start crafting! First, gently crumple the pink tissue paper into soft balls.
If the children are having trouble crumpling, tear the paper into smaller pieces to make it easier.
Next, simply glue the tree trunk and cherry blossom pieces onto the backing.
The trick to a neat finish is to attach the tissue paper without leaving gaps.
Once it’s done, add finishing touches by drawing in the blank areas or gluing on torn pieces of origami paper.

Let’s make use of familiar materials! I’ll show you an idea for creating cherry blossoms using a newspaper stamp.
You’ll need drawing paper, crayons, newspaper, paint, and a paper plate.
First, use crayons to draw the cherry tree trunk on the drawing paper.
Next, put some paint on the paper plate.
A single color looks nice, but I recommend using two colors so you can enjoy the way they blend.
Finally, pick up some paint with a crumpled piece of newspaper and dab it onto the paper—stamp, stamp—and you’ll have a tree full of cherry blossoms!
Cherry blossom pattern made with a tampon stencil

“Tanpo stencil” is a technique in which you dab paint to transfer a design from a template.
This time, let’s make simple templates using origami and copier paper wrapping.
Copier paper wrapping is durable even when wet, making it a good material for stencils.
Once you’ve made the templates for cherry blossoms and petals, stamp them with paint.
It’s best to make the tanpo by wrapping gauze around a sponge and tying it with a rubber band.
Creating a gradient with dark and light colors looks lovely.
It’s an easy craft that instantly brightens up a wall.
Cherry blossom photo frame

This photo frame is decorated with origami cherry blossoms that convey the warm air of spring.
Cherry blossoms are strongly associated with milestones that come in spring, such as graduation and school entrance ceremonies, so they’re perfect for displaying photos that look back on memories.
Place the photo in the center of a paper plate and surround it with small origami cherry blossoms.
Pay close attention to the three-dimensional look of the blossoms, and pack them in so the base paper plate doesn’t show—that’s the key point.
Cherry-blossom viewing craft
Here’s a craft idea for cherry-blossom viewing using paper plates and tissues.
Prepare a paper plate, tissue paper (flower paper), tissues, glue, paint, and brushes.
Start by gluing torn pieces of flower paper to the center of the paper plate, then continue gluing around the plate to add volume.
To evoke cherry blossoms, use a brush to add color to the tissues.
Finish by placing a photo of the child or an animal in the center of the paper plate.
You could also decorate the tissues with cherry blossom petals cut from construction paper, or add favorite foods related to hanami for an extra cute touch.

Color with water-based markers! Let me show you how to make cherry blossom petals using coffee filters.
You’ll need white coffee filters, water-based markers, scissors, a spray bottle, and old paper like newspaper.
First, color the coffee filter with the water-based markers.
You can draw spirals, or straight lines vertically or horizontally.
Using 2–3 colors of markers lets you enjoy the blended effect! Next, spray the coffee filter with water.
Finally, once it’s dry, cut the coffee filter into petal shapes and you’re done.
