[Nursery/Daycare] Ocean wall display, summer sea, sea creatures

A hot summer when it feels cool and so refreshing to jump into the pool or the sea! How about making some cool ocean-themed wall decorations so you can enjoy that summer feeling at nursery schools and kindergartens too? Here, we’ve gathered a variety of wall decor ideas perfect for July and August childcare.

Have fun with the children creating and displaying decorations featuring a big ocean, cute fish, whales, and jellyfish.

Decorate the room with colorful pieces and enjoy a delightful ocean world together with the kids!

Curtain of the Sea

Let’s try making a cool, ocean-themed curtain using items like raffia ribbon.

Cut several strands of blue-toned raffia ribbon to match the width of your window.

Then freely attach paper cutouts shaped like sea creatures, origami sea animals, or drawings of the ocean that you’ve cut out.

You’ll end up with a piece that feels just like being under the sea or in an aquarium! If you let the children create their own sea creatures freely, they can enjoy the project without worrying much about age differences.

A Stroll by the Sea with the Boing-Boing Jellyfish

A Stroll by the Sea with the Boing-Boing Jellyfish

Jellyfish that swim all jiggly and fluffy are so cute, aren’t they? Let’s make a craft themed around those adorable jellyfish taking a stroll through the sea! To capture that jiggly jellyfish feel, it’s best to add a mechanism that creates movement.

After drawing a jellyfish on construction paper, attach an accordion-folded strip of paper behind it to act like a spring.

That way, when you touch it, the jellyfish will wobble and jiggle, making it fun for kids.

Around the jellyfish, draw fish and seaweed or add origami pieces to create a lively ocean scene.

When coloring the jellyfish, use paints with extra water to bring out their translucent look!

Fun Opening of the Beach Season

Seasonal wall display. July: 'Opening of the Sea'
Fun Opening of the Beach Season

Many children were probably eagerly awaiting the day the beach officially opens.

Let’s create works that let everyone enjoy ocean scenes—both the kids who actually go to the beach and those who don’t.

Start with drawings of children swimming, add sea creatures like fish and seaweed, depict cute animals playing in the ocean, and even try making mermaids.

If you combine these ocean scenes with beach activities like watermelon splitting and beach-ball games on the shore, you can capture an even more fun, summery seaside vibe!

Summer and Animals

Seasonal wall display. This time, we’re introducing the July wall display: “Summer and Animals.”
Summer and Animals

Here are some July wall display ideas perfect for the hot summer, featuring summer motifs and animals.

With classic summer treats like shaved ice, rhinoceros beetles, and watermelon, the display really gives off a summery vibe and looks delicious.

By adding animals around them, the wall display gains a sense of story.

Try making shaved ice in different flavors to increase the variety.

It’s also a great idea to create a summer-festival-like display by incorporating elements like rhinoceros beetles, watermelon, fans, and food stalls to capture the summer atmosphere.

Setting a clear theme for the display can make it more concrete and easier to create.

In summer, even if things get dirty, the laundry dries quickly, doesn’t it? Here are some summer wall art ideas using paint that are perfect for July.

Put paint on bubble wrap wrapped around a paper cup, and stamp it onto the center of a sunflower like a stamp.

The bubble wrap’s texture makes the sunflower look three-dimensional.

For the water yo-yos you often see at summer festival stalls, mix glue into the paint and gently flick the brush to add color.

You’ll get wonderfully accidental patterns.

You can display them however you like, but decorating them in a festival stall style for a summery feel is also recommended!

A Sea of Bleeding Colors

Let’s try expressing the ocean using the bleeding painting technique.

Prepare a sheet of rice paper, draw freely, and simply mist it with a spray to make the colors bleed—that’s it! It’s a very simple project, but spraying together with the children will really liven things up.

It’s a creative idea where the process itself is fun.

In addition to blue and light blue, have green and purple pens ready to broaden the range of expression.

Display the artwork in the classroom or at the entrance so many people can enjoy it.

Large-scale ocean production

Why not create a bold ocean-themed wall display using large poster paper? First, paint the poster paper to make the ocean background, then scatter pieces of tissue paper you’ve cut up on top.

This will help express the waves and shimmer of the sea.

Next, use construction paper and PE tape to make sea creatures like octopuses, squids, and jellyfish.

Have fun making them together with the children! Once the creatures are finished, stick them wherever you like to complete the display.

Adding extras like seashells and wakame seaweed will really enhance the atmosphere.

Make it a wonderful wall display by making the most of the children’s ideas.
