Whale Shark Sticker Activity

Speaking of popular creatures at aquariums, whale sharks are a top favorite! Watching them glide leisurely in a huge tank really gives you a sense of the ocean’s vastness.

Let’s make a whale shark while having fun with stickers.

First, create the whale shark’s parts out of construction paper and glue them together.

Color the mouth area white, draw the face, then add patterns by sticking on white round stickers.

And that’s it—your whale shark is complete! You can also switch up the sticker colors to add your own personal touch.

Aquarium building

Aquarium building

As we spend more time indoors during the summer, why not take this opportunity to enjoy some focused crafting with your children? This time, we’re introducing an aquarium-making activity.

Aquariums, where you can see a variety of creatures up close, are full of charm for kids.

By creating their own aquariums, children can nurture their creativity and expressive skills.

Prepare familiar materials like paper plates and plastic bottles, and let the children cut and paste according to their own ideas and images—this helps develop fine motor skills and spatial awareness.

It’s great to carry out the activity while valuing children’s free-thinking and flashes of inspiration.

We hope you’ll give it a try!

sea bathing

Many children are probably looking forward to going to the beach with their families during summer vacation.

To heighten their excitement even more, let’s make a beach-themed wall decoration! You could show kids swimming in the sea, floating on inflatable rings, or even riding dolphins like in a fairy tale.

It’s also great to depict scenes not just under the water but on the shore—like playing watermelon-splitting games or building sandcastles.

Whether the children are going to the beach or not, try creating pieces that let everyone feel excited by the seaside scenery.

Ryūgū-jō (Dragon Palace/Undersea Palace)

The dazzling Dragon Palace is a motif that children love.

Connect sheets of light-blue construction paper to create a large ocean, then attach depictions of Urashima Taro, a turtle, and colorful fish and seaweed.

For motifs you want to emphasize, cut and layer construction paper to give them expressive detail.

To convey the ocean’s clarity, using PE tape adds depth and variation, which is highly recommended.

If you decide on the overall composition and scale before starting, the piece will feel cohesive.

It’s also a good idea to share the smaller motifs across the whole school and have everyone collaborate.

Colorful fish

Speaking of the sea, you probably imagine a scene full of fish, right? Let’s create a dazzling ocean scene by making colorful fish! One way is to cut fish shapes out of construction paper and glue on small pieces of origami paper like patterns.

It’s also recommended to add patterns to the fish using wet-on-wet painting or wax-resist techniques.

You could also use flashy paper itself—something sparkly or with cute patterns.

Try creating a bright, lively ocean you wouldn’t often see in real life.

Whale and Swaying Jellyfish

How about making a big whale with jellyfish swimming around it? For the whale, cut out the shape from construction paper and add various patterns as you like.

For example, you could paste on flowers made from construction paper, origami, or tissue paper, or create patterns by flicking paint with a toothbrush through a mesh.

If you want jellyfish that gently sway, it’s best to make them three-dimensional and hang them as decorations.

The way they sway in the breeze looks very refreshing and gives the feeling of swimming in the sea.

Try making good use of items like plastic raffia (suzuran tape), too.

A giant fish painted with finger painting

How about making a big fish with finger painting? Finger painting, where you paint using paint on your fingers or hands instead of brushes, offers a different kind of charm from regular paintings.

One recommendation is for the teacher to create the rough shape of the fish and have the children help with coloring it using finger painting.

You can cover the whole thing with color, or use the shapes of hands and fingers like patterns to add color—let’s skip the rules and paint freely!
