[Preschool] Cute to Make! A Collection of Valentine’s Craft Ideas
February 14 is Valentine’s Day.
In Japan, there’s a tradition where women give chocolate to someone they like, but recently it’s been shifting toward giving gifts or messages to family and friends as a way to express gratitude.
I think more and more preschools are enjoying the Valentine’s atmosphere as well.
This article introduces Valentine-themed craft ideas for early childhood education.
It’s a collection of ideas you can make with familiar materials like origami paper and recycled items!
Enjoy making Valentine’s crafts together with the children.
Wishing you a wonderful Valentine’s Day.
Because the items children make are treated as “works,” we use the term “seisaku (制作: production/work)” in the text.

Sweets card stand

Using items you can easily find at a 100-yen shop, let’s make the perfect piece for a Valentine’s Day event.
Create a card stand inspired by sweet and cute desserts to brighten up your event or party! First, prepare some pipe cleaners in pretty colors.
Wind them around and around to resemble colorful swirl candies or rolled cakes.
Glue the motif onto a clip.
Add fruit-like decorations as well.
Once it’s fully dry, you’re done.
Clip a card in place, and your handmade sweets-themed card stand is ready.
Heart balloon made with stamps

Here’s how to make cute heart balloons that are perfect as a Valentine’s gift.
Gently press and bend a toilet paper roll to shape it into a heart.
Once you’ve got the shape, use your favorite paint colors to stamp hearts onto construction paper.
The video shows a drawing of a person holding the balloons, but it would also be lovely to use a photo of your child.
Finally, attach strings to the balloons to make it look like they’re being held, and you’re done! The simple design is super cute, so it also makes a charming decoration for your room.
Valentine stick

Combine your favorite colors of paint with brown to make it look like colorful chocolate.
Once dry, cut out two heart shapes and glue them together.
Be sure to sandwich a stick between the two hearts when you glue them.
Punch holes all the way around the edge of the heart and thread yarn through them.
Finally, wrap it up cutely, and you’re done! The process is fun too, so be sure to give it a try.
Chocolate-covered strawberries made with paint
Here’s a super cute strawberry “chocolate-dipped” craft.
We’ll use paint, but since the paint is handled inside a bag, little ones can enjoy the texture without getting their hands dirty! Place red, pink, and white paint on a strawberry-shaped piece of construction paper and put it into a bag.
From the outside of the bag, enjoy the feel and the way the paint spreads.
Then add “chocolate” toppings with construction paper to finish! In the video, a bear chef made from construction paper is added, but using the children’s face photos would be adorable too!
Scratch card

Many people will likely give chocolates with a message card attached.
That’s where scratch-off cards come in handy.
First, write your letter as usual and place tape over it.
Finally, paint the surface with a mixture of dish soap and paint, and you’re done.
Once it dries, it hardens and can be scratched off.
By the way, you can also cut the tape into a heart shape to create a heart-shaped scratch-off.
With a bit of creativity, it seems adaptable to all kinds of situations.
Heart candy bag

Would you like to make a heart-shaped candy bag? It’ll be super handy for holding chocolates or even some stationery.
You might be wondering whether sewing is dangerous for small children.
No need to worry—this project doesn’t use needles or thread.
All you’ll use is felt.
Just cut it out and assemble it by interlocking the slits.
It could be a great way to spark an interest in sewing, too.
To make things go smoothly, start by making a template.

Heart Garland

You might not hear the term “garland” very often, but it refers to a string of floral or ring-shaped decorations arranged side by side on a cord or wire.
Making a garland out of hearts is a top recommendation for Valentine’s Day! All you need is construction paper, scissors, and a stapler.
First, cut the paper into strips, stack two strips together, curl them around, and staple the ends closed.
Then, tuck the middle of the curve slightly inward to easily form a heart shape.
It’s amazing how simply connecting these can create a garland in no time!
