[Preschool] Cute to Make! A Collection of Valentine’s Craft Ideas
February 14 is Valentine’s Day.
In Japan, there’s a tradition where women give chocolate to someone they like, but recently it’s been shifting toward giving gifts or messages to family and friends as a way to express gratitude.
I think more and more preschools are enjoying the Valentine’s atmosphere as well.
This article introduces Valentine-themed craft ideas for early childhood education.
It’s a collection of ideas you can make with familiar materials like origami paper and recycled items!
Enjoy making Valentine’s crafts together with the children.
Wishing you a wonderful Valentine’s Day.
Because the items children make are treated as “works,” we use the term “seisaku (制作: production/work)” in the text.

Topping Chocolate Stick
Topping Chocolate Sticks are a simple and cute craft for 3-year-olds to enjoy the Valentine’s mood.
Wrap a straw with chocolate-colored construction paper or origami, then add “toppings” by sticking on pipe cleaners, yarn, and colorful paper pieces to create chocolate sticks that look just like the real thing! Through the actions of sticking and choosing, children use their fingers and develop concentration and a sense of color.
Put them in gift bags to make “presents,” and the fun of making them increases even more! Whether displayed in a room or given as a gift, this sweet and delightful craft is perfect for February.
Valentine’s chocolate wall decoration

February brings Valentine’s Day, a time to share your feelings with someone special.
So this time, we’re introducing an idea for a “Valentine’s Chocolate Wall Decoration.” All you need are heart-shaped construction paper, white stickers, and crayons.
The time spent drawing on the heart-shaped paper is a moment when individual feelings tend to come through.
Some may draw spirals, others may use lots of favorite colors—each heart turns out differently.
Add a white sticker and write the name of the person you want to give it to, and it becomes a one-of-a-kind piece.
The time spent thinking, “Who should I choose?” is heartwarming, and this idea naturally invites Valentine-like exchanges.

Slide Valentine’s Card
It’s an idea where the design changes when you slide the card.
At first glance it looks like a magic trick, but the design changes by placing two stacked cards into a frame with dividers.
When you pull the card out, the combined design of the two cards appears; when you insert the card into the frame, the dividers reveal only the design on the top card.
Make the card that goes on top from a transparent sheet and keep its design simple.
Create the bottom card in colorful style so that, when pulled out, its design combines with the transparent top card to form the final image.
A card where chocolate delivers the message
This is a message card where chocolate says “I Love You.” Cut the base construction paper into a cross shape, then fold it in half by matching the top and bottom edges.
Use this crease to fold the left and right sections of the cross inward.
Draw chocolates with faces on the inside of the base, and attach the “I Love You” message parts made from another sheet of construction paper onto the folded sections to finish.
If you make the message parts heart-shaped, it will give it a Valentine’s feel.
Chocolate decoration that rolls marbles
February makes you think of Valentine’s Day, doesn’t it? For crafts during this season, we recommend chocolate-themed decorations that you can enjoy like a game.
Prepare a container you don’t mind getting dirty, such as an empty tin or a box lid.
Place a heart-shaped piece of construction paper inside, then add marbles coated with paint.
Roll the marbles around to create patterns.
Use your wrists and upper body to move them so you don’t drop the marbles.
It’s a good idea to let your child choose the color of the paper and the paint.
Enjoy watching the patterns take shape and the process of completing the craft while moving your body.
A card for quietly confessing your feelings

Let me introduce a Valentine’s Day card with a hot air balloon motif.
In this idea, you create a 3D effect by cutting two pieces of construction paper into heart shapes to form the balloon’s envelope.
Attach the balloon to a backing sheet with clouds drawn on it, and draw the basket area with a pen.
By writing your message in small letters on the envelope part, you can make a quiet, subtle confession.
If you make the heart from dark brown construction paper and write on it with a black pen, it’ll be even harder to notice.
It’s a heart-pounding idea that makes you wonder, “Will they notice it?”
Cute card with beads

When you shake it, the beads on the cover move—it’s a cute and stylish card.
You can make it if you have construction paper, a clear bag, beads, stickers, and other decoration items.
First, cut the card base out of construction paper and fold it in half.
Next, cut a heart-shaped window in the center of the front cover and attach a clear bag filled with beads to the back side.
Once the clear bag is securely fixed, glue the front and back covers together.
Finally, decorate the cover with your favorite items, and it’s done! If you use brown-toned construction paper for the base and wrap it with aluminum foil, you can even make it look like a chocolate bar.
