L’Arc~en~Ciel’s Masterpieces | A Comprehensive Introduction from Mega-Hits to Hidden Gems (41–50)
good-morning HideL’Arc〜en〜Ciel

This is the fifth track on the album “True,” released in 1996.
It is L’Arc-en-Ciel’s first song with entirely English lyrics, with the lyrics written by their former drummer, sakura.
The title “Hide” refers to hyde and originates from his former name.
In 1997, drummer sakura was arrested on the spot for violating the Stimulants Control Law and subsequently left the band.
milky wayL’Arc〜en〜Ciel

The title “milky way” refers to the Milky Way in English.
As the title suggests, it’s a memorable song with lyrics about going to meet a loved one on a starry night.
Although both the lyrics and music were written by the bassist tetsuya, this was the first song for which he wrote the lyrics.
With its gentle, soft-feeling chorus, it’s also a fan favorite at live shows.
VoiceL’Arc〜en〜Ciel

The second track on their first album, DUNE, released in 1993.
It sings of anxiety about the future, yet also the hope that there’s surely something ahead.
Sonically, it gives the impression of straightforward guitar rock.
There are versions performed by each of L’Arc-en-Ciel’s drummers throughout the band’s history.
It’s also the first song guitarist ken wrote as a member of L’Arc〜en〜Ciel.
Spirit Dreams InsideL’Arc〜en〜Ciel

This is the English version of a song released in 2001 as the 21st single.
It was chosen as the theme song for the 3D film “FINAL FANTASY,” which drew considerable attention.
The lyrics, with a strong message about the importance of moving forward as you believe, leave a lasting impression.
The light rhythm and sound are pleasant to listen to—perfect for a walk outside on a sunny day.
Floods of tearsL’Arc〜en〜Ciel

These are tracks from L’Arc~en~Ciel’s only indie single, “Floods of tears/Yasouka,” released in 1992.
The poignant lyrics evoke a sense of emptiness and transience, leaving a strong impression.
Hyde’s sweet vocals deepen the song’s world even further.
As one of L’Arc’s earliest songs, it hadn’t been performed for a long time, but it made a rare return at their 20th anniversary live in 2011, thrilling fans.
I WishL’Arc〜en〜Ciel

“I Wish” is the ninth track on the 1996 album “True,” and its working title was “Christmas.” Although the word “Christmas” doesn’t appear in the lyrics, the use of jingle bells and a children’s chorus gives it a quintessential Christmas song feel.
In live performances, hyde wears a Santa hat.
In the AirL’Arc〜en〜Ciel

This “In the Air” is the very first track on L’Arc-en-Ciel’s second album “Tierra,” which was their first release after making their major-label debut.
“Tierra” means “earth” in Spanish, and “In the Air” is a fitting opener for the album.
It is one of L’Arc-en-Ciel’s signature songs, included on three of their best-of compilations.
