Gargantua Music FestivalIshikawa Prefecture, Tue 4/28–Tue 5/5
The Gargantua Music Festival is a celebration that fills all of Kanazawa with classical music during Golden Week. Centered on the Ishikawa Ongakudo (Ishikawa Prefectural Music Hall), performances unfold across a variety of venues from concert halls to open squares, featuring collaborations with traditional performing arts and initiatives for citizen participation. In addition to full-scale performances by top orchestras and soloists, the festival offers entertainment-rich programs that can be enjoyed by both children and adults. In 2026, under the theme “The Top 10 Composers You Choose: A Decade of Musical Journeys in Hokuriku–Kanazawa,” it will be held from April through May.

JAM FESTokyo, Wed 4/29 – Wed 5/6
JAM FES is an independently organized festival held every year during Golden Week by Nishi-Eifuku JAM. The venue first opened in Shinjuku in 1980 and moved to Nishi-Eifuku, Suginami in 2018. This long-running event gathers a diverse array of bands with the warm, community-rooted feel of a neighborhood live house. Centered on rock, punk, and alternative, its eclectic lineup spans up-and-coming acts to mid-career artists. On some days during the festival, attendees can move freely between the main space and the adjoining UNDERGROUND, making for an intense eight days of hopping between two stages. Mujiq Fest NaraFri, 5/1 – Thu, 12/31 Nara Prefecture
Musikfest Nara, whose name comes from the German word for “music festival,” is a large-scale music festival organized by Nara Prefecture that began in 2012. Venues across the prefecture include World Heritage shrines and temples, historic halls, as well as cafés and community centers in town, blending the ancient capital’s scenery with a rich variety of sounds. Centered on classical music, the lineup spans jazz, traditional Japanese music, world/folk music, and rock, fostering a community-wide music culture. In 2026, it will run for an extended period from May through December.

A city-style festival jointly produced by TOWER RECORDS, Shimamura Music, and PLANT, held right in the heart of Sapporo’s Odori. Set on the special rooftop stage of Sapporo PARCO, your wristband lets you move freely throughout the venue. One of its appeals is that you can enjoy live performances in an open-air setting with a drink in hand, while taking breaks for shopping or dining at the in-house restaurants.
