First-ever school festival live performance: Schedule management techniques to make your debut show a success
I want to perform live at this year’s cultural festival/school festival!
But where should I start?
This time, I’ve put together a schedule of key points to help you make your first school festival stage a success.
High school culture festivals and school festivals take place in September.

The timing of the cultural festival live performance varies by school, but if it’s a high school,Cultural festivals and school festivals are often held in early September.I think so.
If you start counting from April, the beginning of the fiscal year, the period up to September is five months.
With midterm exams at the end of May and final exams starting in early July, we need to be performance-ready in essentially about four months.
If you’re just starting an instrument, you’ll need daily practice to be able to perform on stage.
This time, so it won’t just remain a dream to perform live at the school I admire, I’ve put together what I want to get done before the big day.
We’re introducing them in chronological order, so please use it as a reference.
Schedule for a successful first live performance
April | Join the light music club or ask upperclassmen/teachers how to perform at the school festival

If your school has a light music club with many experienced musicians, joining it is the quickest path.
At some schools, auditions are held by recruiting those who wish to perform.
If you’re not usually in the light music club, or if your school doesn’t have one, actively consult seniors or teachers about anything you’re curious about.
- Is it possible to build a stage and hold a live performance?
- What did you do in the past?
- What should I do about the equipment?
May | Recruiting band members

http://www.photo-ac.com/
Once we enter July, final exams begin, and then summer vacation starts, so we’ll have fewer chances to see each other at school. Let’s finalize the band members by the end of June.
If you can’t find anyone in your class, try mustering up the courage to reach out to upperclassmen or underclassmen.
Once all the members are assembled, let’s do a final check of each part’s instrumental performance level.
When a group includes both beginners and experienced players and there’s a significant gap in performance level, the seniors should lead the juniors, and the juniors must strive not to fall behind the seniors.
June | Song selection

http://jp.freeimages.com/
Before choosing the song, we should confirm the allotted time (performance duration).
I think it would be realistically difficult to perform an original song right away, so it will probably be mainly covers and copy performances.
Let’s come up with lots of song candidates as a group and then choose the setlist by imagining the live stage on the day of the school festival.
What’s important here is to think about which songs the audience wants to hear on the day.
Hit songs or highly difficult pieces aren’t necessarily the ones that get people excited.
It’s also a good idea to ask your friends around you for their opinions and use them as a reference.
July | Decide on band practice

http://www.photo-ac.com/
If the culture festival is at the beginning of September, then there are only 40 days from the start of summer vacation.
This is a valuable period when we can focus on band practice, so let’s coordinate everyone’s schedules and reserve a classroom at school or a nearby music studio.
If your band can confidently play just one song first, that motivation will carry over to the next song.
Once the practice date is set, each section will proceed with individual practice.
Start by listening repeatedly to check your own sound and the song’s structure, and focus first on “memorizing the song.”
If you have a band score or sheet music, use it as a reference.
Also, to avoid any trouble during practice, make sure to always keep your instrument in good condition.
August | Band practice day

First, when you enter the practice room, start setting up each part.
After finishing your own instrument setup, stop playing for a moment and be considerate so you don’t interfere with others as they craft their tone or adjust their volume.
Once everyone has finished setting up, we’ll play one song to check the volume balance.
Band practice is,Always record and listen to your performance objectively.Let's do it that way.
You can make use of your smartphone’s voice recorder, but it might also be good to try recording audio with proper studio equipment.
- Are you keeping the tempo?
- Are the chords and melody correct?
- Are the line beginnings aligned?
- Are the breaks properly aligned?
and check, etc.

Once you’ve reached this point, it’s just a matter of repeatedly practicing and reviewing areas for improvement.
By practicing and having as much fun as you like, originality will emerge.
To do that, you need to practice with an awareness of staging and the setlist order.
To get used to performing in front of others, let’s also make opportunities to have seniors and the advisor check your performance.
The day before | Mental rehearsal

Be sure to prepare spares for instrument and costume checks, as well as picks, guitar strings, sticks, and so on.
Please picture yourself performing on stage in a cool, confident way many times.
Watching live videos of your favorite artists in advance can further boost your performance and motivation.
On the day | Stage rehearsal

I think there will be a rehearsal on the day of the concert, including the sound setup.
The stage is different from the environment we usually practice in.
To perform with confidence, we’ll carefully check the volume balance of each part here.
Also, be aware that the sense of reverberation from the audience seats changes before and after the audience enters.
Be sure to take notes on the amp position and the volume/tone settings so you can reproduce them exactly as in the actual performance.
Once the performance positions are confirmed, mark them on the floor with tape or similar.
Live performance | Enjoy to your heart's content!

The thing I most want you to keep in mind during the real performance is "Face the audience properly while performingthat is to say.
If you’ve practiced enough, the performance should be ingrained in your body.
Perform with confidence and entertain the audience in the venue!
Get professional advice to bring you closer to success!
How can we make cultural festival and school festival live performances even more exciting?
There’s no one around me with experience playing instruments, so… I don’t have anyone I can consult.
For those people, I recommend attending a trial admission/open day at a music school!
Many of the instructors at the music school are active professional musicians.
Not only can you watch active musicians perform up close, but you can also take lessons directly and consult with them.
