Cinama NostalgiaHisaishi Joe

A Japan-born musician who is active on the world stage.

Hasn’t everyone heard this piece at least once, such as on Friday Road Show? When you take the time to listen closely, the piano melody is incredibly beautiful—grand and soothing.

ReflectionKomatsu Masashi

A work by Masashi Komatsu, a composer and pianist.

He focuses on “sound” beyond just music, applying it to education, scholarship, and design, and is especially acclaimed for his transparent timbre that evokes water and wind, as well as his improvisation.

His music, grounded in his specialized research in auditory ecology and psychoacoustics, lets listeners imagine natural landscapes and brings relaxation to both body and mind.

The title ‘Reflection’ means “refraction/reflecting,” and the light of the setting sun reflected in a window and the outside scenery are beautifully depicted through the piano’s sound.

Whisper of the RiverTsujii Nobuyuki

Whisper of the River ~ Nobuyuki Tsujii
Whisper of the RiverTsujii Nobuyuki

This is an original piece by Nobuyuki Tsujii, a genius pianist who, despite being visually impaired, moves listeners’ hearts with profound emotion and joy.

Tsujii, who sometimes takes walks along the river with his father, was struck by the murmuring of the stream during one such stroll, and captured that impression in this composition.

True to Tsujii, who has loved water since childhood, the work vividly depicts a clear, limpid river flow.

Composed in 2007, the piece was performed as an encore at a recital held in 2008.

Sentimental WaltzPyotr Tchaikovsky

Tchaikovsky Sentimental Waltz Op. 51, No. 6
Sentimental WaltzPyotr Tchaikovsky

A Russian composer known as a genius of rhythm, he turned his heart toward the vulnerable—orphans, plants and animals, and homosexuals.

I believe this piece also reveals much of that sensitivity.

It is refined and seems like a work that draws out human kindness.

Farewell SongFrederic Chopin

He is a pianist born in Poland who is representative of the Romantic era.

This piece is often used at graduation ceremonies, and when I graduated, my teacher performed it as well.

It’s said that when he composed this piece, he remarked that he would probably never be able to create such a beautiful melody again in his lifetime.

It is truly beautiful.
