Farewell SongFrederic Chopin

He is a pianist born in Poland who is representative of the Romantic era.

This piece is often used at graduation ceremonies, and when I graduated, my teacher performed it as well.

It’s said that when he composed this piece, he remarked that he would probably never be able to create such a beautiful melody again in his lifetime.

It is truly beautiful.

Spartacus Love ThemeAhmad Jamal

He is an American jazz pianist and one of the musicians who had a major influence on jazz after 1945.

This piece was the theme song used in the film Spartacus, and his piano cover is truly wonderful—please give it a listen.

ElegySergei Rachmaninov

[Classical Masterpiece] Rachmaninoff: Morceaux de fantaisie, Op. 3 – No. 1, Elegy “Lament”
ElegySergei Rachmaninov

It’s a piece from a set of fantasy miniatures by a Russian-born musician.

It was composed for his composition teacher from his days at the Moscow Conservatory.

It conveys deep sorrow.

I think many people feel calm when they listen to sad music.

He’s famous for being taciturn, but it feels as though he pours emotions he doesn’t usually show on the surface into his music.

Three Intermezzos, Op. 117 – No. 2Johannes Brahms

Brahms “Three Intermezzi” Op. 117 No. 2 / Pf: Miyuki Kodama
Three Intermezzos, Op. 117 – No. 2Johannes Brahms

A composer born in Germany, he is hailed as one of the Three Bs along with Beethoven and Bach.

This piece, with flashes of brightness and melancholy, is profoundly epic and wonderful.

It seems the background of its composition involved an engagement, a broken engagement, and many worries.

You can catch glimpses of that throughout the music.

Jesu, Joy of Man’s DesiringJ.S.Bach

Alon Goldstein performs Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring
Jesu, Joy of Man’s DesiringJ.S.Bach

One of the important composers of the Baroque era, he is even called the “father of music” in Japan.

It was originally composed as a hymn, but it’s also a very pleasant piece to play on the piano.

It’s a melody that almost everyone has probably heard at least once.

Bach’s music feels accessible and simple, yet truly masterful.

regretTaki Rentarō

A Japanese musician who had a major impact on the spread of Western music in Japan during the Meiji era.

This piece is said to be one of his few piano works, composed a few months before his death.

Perhaps for that reason, the piece conveys a range of powerful emotions.

Contrary to its title, ‘Regret,’ it features a weighty yet beautiful melody.

Flower Songrange

Lange – Blumenlied (Flower Song): Lange / Flower Song
Flower Songrange

A composer born in Germany, he left as many as 400 piano pieces over his lifetime.

A bravely blooming flower comes to mind, and its melody is very beautiful and graceful.

Wouldn’t you say it’s a piece that suits words like romantic and elegant?
