Scenes from Childhood, Op. 15 No. 7 “Träumerei”Robert Schumann

Among all of Robert Schumann’s works, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Träumerei is the most famous.
Often rendered in Japanese as “dream” or “reverie,” this piece appears in a variety of media, including television and film, making it one that many people have heard.
Though the tempo is gentle, bringing out the beauty of the harmonies and conveying a soft, dreamlike atmosphere is no easy task.
Still, by the time you finish playing it, you’ll surely be filled with a sense of accomplishment at having performed a true masterpiece to the end!
Suite bergamasque, No. 3: Clair de LuneClaude Debussy

The third piece from Claude Debussy’s Suite bergamasque, Clair de Lune, is considered his most famous work.
It is frequently featured in concerts and used as background music in visual media.
This exquisitely beautiful piano piece evokes a dreamlike scene where the moon’s gentle light emerges in the night sky.
In terms of tempo and note density, it isn’t particularly difficult, but conveying the piece’s unique atmosphere is a formidable challenge.
You could even say that real practice begins only after you’ve finished reading the score.
Be sure to focus on the beauty of the sound and the calm, flowing lines as you practice.
Gymnopédie No. 1Erik Satie

Gymnopédies are three piano pieces composed in 1888 by the French composer Erik Satie.
The first piece, subtitled “Lent et douloureux” (“Slowly, with pain”), is particularly well known among the three and is considered one of Satie’s signature works.
While the music has a luminous clarity that evokes watercolor paintings, the occasional poignant harmonies that surface amid its unhurried progression convey a sense of anguish and wistfulness.
It’s a gently soothing piece that slowly seeps into the heart, making it perfect for listening before sleep or whenever you want to calm your mind.
Amazing GraceSakkyokusha fumei

Amazing Grace is known for its deeply moving, beautiful melody.
Many people likely remember Minako Honda’s crystal-clear voice singing it.
With a title meaning “the wonderful grace of God,” the song is originally a hymn with lyrics by the English clergyman John Newton.
In the United States, it is cherished as a “second national anthem,” and in Japan it is widely used in films and television dramas.
Because it consists of a simple 16-bar melody repeated, aim to perform it expressively by varying dynamics, phrasing, and arrangement.

Three Concert Études No. 3 “Un Sospiro”Franz Liszt

It’s striking that such a very relaxed piece bears the title “Sigh.” It was published in 1849 as the third piece of Liszt’s Three Concert Études.
Its sentimental, sweet melody flows as if sung, and listening to it brings a sense of calm.
Liszt is said to have composed it by 1848 and dedicated it to his uncle, Eduard.
It’s a perfect piece for relaxing at home or for an uninterrupted day off.
A soothing work that makes you want to close your eyes and listen.
sighFranz Liszt
