Summer Vacation Independent Research: I Tried Making a Water Filter
filter

Here’s a filter project idea that’s good enough for a science project! Prepare two 500 ml plastic bottles.

Cut off the mouth of the first bottle, and cut off the bottom of the second bottle.

Stuff cotton into the mouth of the second bottle, cover it with gauze, and secure it with a rubber band.

Insert the second bottle into the first one, then layer the materials in this order: small stones, gauze, activated charcoal, gauze, and small stones.

That’s it! It’s simple, but it works as a proper filter, so try pouring different liquids through it and see what happens.

In conclusion

With just simple materials, PET bottle crafts can create a surprisingly rich world of play.

If you make them together with an elementary school child, you can hone both dexterity and creativity.

The familiar PET bottle becomes the star of a memorable, delightful craft.

Give it a try for a summer vacation project or a family crafting time.
