RADWIMPS' classic and popular songs

Let me introduce some songs by RADWIMPS, a rock band that represents the “Rockin’ On” scene.

Their lyrics are literary with a unique worldview, and their straightforward, catchy tunes—classic J-rock without quirks—are incredibly appealing.

The guitarist-vocalist Yojiro Noda grew up abroad, while the other members studied at music vocational schools or conservatories, making their English-language lyrics and high level of musicianship part of their charm as well.

If you were born in the early ’90s, chances are many of the songs you listened to in high school are included in this playlist.

Give it a listen and let it take you back to your youth.

Contrary to their feelings for each other, at such a crucial moment they can’t see one another.

Taki calls out Mitsuha’s name near the sacred rock.

Mitsuha calls Taki’s name too, but although they can hear each other’s voices, they can’t see each other.

It’s a scene that leaves viewers frustrated and heartbroken at the fact that the two who once spent such joyful days together can’t even touch, and makes us anxious about what will happen next.

The ethereal tones of the music were especially memorable.

Taki can no longer swap places with Mitsuha, and his memories gradually begin to fade.

This is the scene where he tries to go see Mitsuha, tracing the memories of Itomori that aren’t written in the notebook.

As he desperately tries to remember and sketch the townscape, Taki’s anxiety intersects with his desire to believe in something, and yet he can’t help needing to be sure—those emotions come through in the music.

Hida ExplorationRADWIMPS

This plays during the scene where he heads to Hida, relying on a drawing he made from memory, to search for Mitsuha.

He came here to check something, but there are also some lighthearted, slightly goofy moments that make you chuckle and reveal Taki’s personality.

You can even feel how delicious the Takayama ramen is (lol).

It’s a fun piano piece that lets you catch your breath for a bit.

One of the fun things about karaoke is getting hyped with high-energy songs, right? With that in mind, I’d like to recommend “Saihate Aini.” RADWIMPS wrote this track specifically for an Aquarius commercial.

It features a guitar-driven, fast-paced sound.

The lyrics depict a passionate kind of love, so singing it is sure to boost your mood.

By the way, intense songs can seem like they require a lot of lung capacity, but this one has clear breathing points, making it relatively easy to sing.

How about a rich, deep track packed with EDM elements? It’s a song by RADWIMPS, the popular band behind hits like “Zenzenzense,” released in 2022.

The track was written as the theme song for the drama “Ishiko and Haneo: You Sue for That?” It starts off quietly and gradually builds, but rather than being the kind of song that simply gets you hyped, it makes you think and stirs your emotions.

It might be just right for times when you want to take a fresh look at your life.

It’s classic indie guitar rock, but the crisp, punchy drums are highly effective and should make a strong impression on anyone hearing this kind of sound for the first time.

The drums also add a great groove that makes you want to check out the other tracks.

This song by RADWIMPS expresses the everyday, unassuming happiness around us and the hope that leads us toward the future.

It was written specifically as the theme song for Kirin Beverage’s “Gogo no Kocha” (Afternoon Tea) commercial.

The emotional sound is striking: it begins with a quiet piano tone that feels like murmuring one’s inner feelings, then unfolds into a grand chorus that seems to depict an expanding landscape.

It’s a piece that reminds us of the happiness found in daily life—something we want to cherish as we move forward.
